Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary conducted a detailed inspection of AIIMS Patna, reviewing healthcare services, infrastructure development, and future expansion plans. During the visit, he assured full state support for strengthening the institute and announced several key development initiatives aimed at improving patient care and hospital capacity.
24 Acres Additional Land for AIIMS Expansion
The Chief Minister announced that the state government will provide 24 acres of additional land for the expansion of AIIMS Patna.
With this expansion:
- Around 200 additional hospital beds will be added
- Patient treatment capacity will significantly increase
- Healthcare infrastructure will be strengthened to handle rising demand
Officials were directed to ensure smooth coordination for land allocation and development work.
200 New Beds and Improved Patient Care Facilities
As part of the expansion plan, the Chief Minister confirmed the addition of 200 new beds at AIIMS Patna. This will enhance:
- In-patient care capacity
- Emergency response services
- Overall hospital efficiency
The move is expected to benefit thousands of patients from Bihar and neighbouring regions.
AIIMS–Nathupur 4-Lane Road to Improve Connectivity
To improve accessibility to the hospital, the Chief Minister announced support for the construction of the AIIMS–Nathupur 4-lane road.
The proposed road will:
- Ensure smoother transport for patients and attendants
- Reduce travel time to the hospital
- Improve emergency medical access
The state government will coordinate necessary approvals and execution support for the project.
Skin Storage Facility for Burn Patients
A major healthcare upgrade announced during the visit is the development of a skin storage (skin bank) facility for burn patients.
Benefits include:
- Better treatment for critically burned patients
- Timely availability of skin grafts
- Improved survival and recovery rates
The Chief Minister also visited the burn ward and interacted with patients, assuring them of quality medical care and support.
Inspection of Key Medical Departments
During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed several advanced medical units at AIIMS Patna, including:
- PET-CT room under Nuclear Medicine Department
- SPECT-CT facility
- Radiopharmacy laboratory
- Oncology division
- Anatomy department
- Outpatient department (OPD)
He assessed operational efficiency and directed improvements where necessary.
AIIMS Campus Pond to Be Developed as Tourist Attraction
The Chief Minister also inspected the pond located within the AIIMS campus and instructed its renovation.
The plan includes:
- Restoration and beautification of the pond
- Development as a tourism and recreational spot
- Promotion of environmental conservation
The initiative aims to enhance the campus environment while creating a public attraction.
Government Commitment to Healthcare Infrastructure
Reaffirming the state’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that Bihar is focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality medical services for all citizens.
He emphasized that the government will actively support all development works related to AIIMS Patna to make it a model healthcare institution.
