Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has announced a series of education reforms aimed at speeding up board examination results, reducing academic delays and strengthening teacher training and higher education in the state.
Speaking at a Teachers’ Day programme at the SK Memorial Auditorium in Patna, Choudhary said the government plans to declare Matric and Intermediate examination results within one week. The proposals also include a second examination opportunity for students who fail, a new university dedicated to teacher training and a proposed Banaras Hindu University (BHU) centre in Bihar.
Bihar Plans Faster Board Examination Results
A key announcement concerns the time taken to declare Matric and Intermediate results.
The Chief Minister said the government wants to bring the result declaration period down to one week by making the examination and evaluation process faster and more efficient.
The government is also considering releasing results centre-wise, which could help reduce the time between the completion of examinations and the announcement of results.
Choudhary said the longer-term objective is to reduce the waiting period even further, potentially bringing result declaration down to 48 hours through improvements in the examination and evaluation system.
A faster result system could help students make timely decisions about admissions, further studies and other academic opportunities without waiting for extended periods.

Failed Students May Get Another Exam Within 15 Days
The proposed reforms also seek to address the academic setback faced by students who do not clear an examination on their first attempt.
According to Choudhary, students who fail could get an opportunity to appear for another examination within 15 days. This would allow them to make another attempt without waiting for the next annual examination cycle.
The proposal could significantly reduce the academic gap caused by examination failure. Instead of losing an entire academic year, students would have an opportunity to continue their education sooner.
New University Planned for Teacher Training
The Bihar government also plans to establish a new university focused specifically on teacher training.
The proposed institution is aimed at strengthening professional training for teachers and improving their capabilities. The government has linked better teacher preparation with efforts to raise the overall quality of education in Bihar.
A dedicated university could provide a more structured platform for professional development and training, particularly as the state seeks to improve teaching standards across its education system.
BHU Centre Proposed in Bihar
Another major announcement was the proposed establishment of a Banaras Hindu University (BHU) centre in Bihar.
The centre is expected to expand access to higher education opportunities within the state and provide students with access to academic programmes associated with the institution.
However, the Chief Minister did not provide details about the proposed centre’s location, academic programmes or operational framework.
The initiative, if implemented, could add another higher education option for students in Bihar and strengthen the state’s academic infrastructure.
Vikramshila University Targeted Within One Year
Choudhary also spoke about the proposed Vikramshila University, saying that the institution would be brought into operation within one year.
The announcement adds to the government’s focus on expanding higher education infrastructure in Bihar. The Chief Minister also said that issues related to university teachers and employees would remain a priority.
The focus extends beyond creating new institutions to addressing the administrative and financial concerns of existing university personnel.
Teachers’ Salaries and Pending Dues
Teacher salaries also featured prominently in the Chief Minister’s announcements.
Choudhary said the government would work to ensure that teachers receive their salaries on time. He also addressed pending payments for teachers working in madrasa and Sanskrit schools.
According to the announcement, outstanding dues of these teachers are expected to be cleared by September.
Timely payment remains an important issue for the education sector because salary delays can directly affect teachers and their financial stability.
New Pay Scale Considered for Unfunded Teachers
The government is also considering a new pay scale for teachers working in financially unaided institutions.
Choudhary said the proposed arrangement could use internal resources of universities along with government grants to support the new pay structure.
The proposal could provide greater financial support to teachers working in institutions that do not receive regular government funding, although further details on eligibility and implementation are yet to be announced.
A Wider Push for Bihar’s Education System
The announcements cover several parts of Bihar’s education system, from school examinations and student opportunities to teacher training, university expansion and teacher salaries.
The proposed faster result mechanism could reduce waiting periods for students, while second-chance examinations could help those who fail avoid losing an academic year. At the higher education level, the proposed BHU centre and Vikramshila University could expand institutional opportunities.
At the same time, the planned teacher training university and proposed pay-related measures place teachers at the centre of the state’s education reform agenda.
If implemented effectively, these measures could make Bihar’s education system more responsive to students and teachers while strengthening the state’s higher education infrastructure.
