Bhopal/Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated a new Indore Metro corridor built at a cost of ₹2,850 crore on September 5, marking a significant step towards strengthening the city’s urban transport network. The new corridor is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion and give fresh momentum to economic activity in Indore.
During the inauguration, CM Mohan Yadav also travelled on the metro along with Union Minister Manohar Lal and Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. He interacted with schoolchildren during the journey and spent time speaking with them.
₹2,850 Crore Metro Corridor Inaugurated in Indore
The newly inaugurated metro corridor forms part of the expansion of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited network in Indore.
According to the information shared at the event, the corridor has been developed to strengthen public transport and extend metro connectivity into key parts of the city.

CM Mohan Yadav Travels on Metro, Interacts with Schoolchildren
Following the inauguration, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav travelled on the metro from Bapat Chauraha to Gandhinagar along with Union Minister Manohar Lal and Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
During the journey, the Chief Minister interacted with schoolchildren and spoke to them about their experience of travelling on the metro. His interaction with the children was one of the highlights of the inauguration programme.
CM Yadav said the expansion of the metro is not merely an addition to the city’s transport infrastructure but represents the beginning of a new chapter of development for Indore.
Metro Expansion to Strengthen Indore and Malwa Region
CM Mohan Yadav said the first phase of the metro received a positive response, following which the network is now being expanded towards the inner areas of the city.
He said the expansion will continue in the coming years and the metro will play an important role in improving the transportation system of Indore and the wider Malwa region.
The Chief Minister also highlighted plans to connect Indore with Ujjain and Pithampur, strengthening regional connectivity and creating a more integrated urban and economic corridor.
Indore-Manmad Rail Project Gets ₹18,500 Crore Approval
Highlighting other major infrastructure developments, CM Yadav said the approval of ₹18,500 crore for the Indore-Manmad new railway line is another major achievement for the region.
He said the project will create a direct connectivity route between Indore, Maharashtra and Mumbai through Manmad, reducing the need to travel through Gujarat for connectivity with Mumbai.
According to the Chief Minister, the railway project will contribute to the development of Indore, Malwa and Madhya Pradesh and create new opportunities for regional connectivity and economic growth.
Ujjain-Indore-Mumbai Connectivity to Expand
CM Yadav said better railway connectivity will be developed from Guna to Ujjain, Ujjain to Indore and Indore to Manmad.
He also reiterated the commitment to extending the metro network to Ujjain. The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen connectivity between Indore, Ujjain and surrounding areas and support the development of an integrated metropolitan region.
The Chief Minister said Indore, known as the city of Maa Devi Ahilya, has established a distinctive identity in both development and heritage, and continued infrastructure expansion will further strengthen the city’s position.
Manohar Lal Calls New Metro Corridor a Milestone
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal described the inauguration of the new 11-km metro corridor as a milestone in Indore’s development.
He noted that the earlier metro stretch of around 6 km was largely limited to the outer areas, while the addition of the new corridor has connected the metro network with important parts of the city.
According to the Union Minister, metro expansion will provide safe, convenient and time-bound public transport to:
- Students
- Employees
- Traders
- Business communities
- General citizens
He said improved metro connectivity would make commuting easier, save travel time and contribute to the development of the city.
Metro to Boost Industry and Trade
Manohar Lal also highlighted the economic significance of metro infrastructure. He said metro systems are not only important for urban mobility but also serve as an important means of supporting industrial and commercial growth.
Improved connectivity can facilitate easier movement of people and strengthen access to major economic and business centres across the city.
Metro Expansion Planned Towards Pithampur, Mhow and Ujjain
Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the original objective of the Indore Metro project was to make transportation within the city easier, accelerate the city’s expansion and promote decentralised development.
To achieve these objectives, the metro network is planned to be expanded towards Pithampur, Mhow, Dewas-Maksi and Ujjain.
He said that after completion of the first phase within the city, work on the second phase will move forward. The Chief Minister has also provided the necessary approval for the expansion.
The proposed future network includes connectivity towards Pithampur and industrial areas, followed by further expansion towards Ujjain, Avantikapuri and Maksi.
Metro to Give New Momentum to Indore’s Development
The inauguration of the new corridor marks an important development in Indore’s urban transport infrastructure. With further metro and railway expansion planned, the city is expected to gain stronger links with major industrial, commercial and cultural centres in Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states.
CM Mohan Yadav expressed gratitude to Union Minister Manohar Lal, concerned officials and everyone associated with the metro project, saying that the series of development projects being brought to Indore will continue in the future.
