Patna: Bihar is set to strengthen its government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with better infrastructure, improved facilities for women trainees and stronger links with apprenticeships and skill-based education. Several measures were approved at a review meeting chaired by Youth, Employment and Skill Development Minister Arun Shankar Prasad.
Hostels Planned at Women’s ITIs
The department has decided to invite tenders for constructing hostels under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at women’s ITIs that currently lack accommodation facilities.
Sanitary napkin vending machines will also be installed at women’s ITIs to improve basic hygiene facilities for trainees.

Solar Panels for Government ITIs
The government has also approved a proposal to install solar panels across all government ITIs in Bihar.
The move is aimed at reducing electricity dependence and lowering the operating costs of technical training institutions. It will also encourage the use of renewable energy on ITI campuses.
Land Donation for New ITI Buildings
The department plans to seek land donations for government ITIs that do not have their own buildings.
Under the proposed arrangement, people donating land may get the opportunity to have an ITI named after their ancestors. The move could encourage greater community participation in expanding technical education infrastructure.
Skill University Gets Push
The meeting also agreed to begin the process of land acquisition for the proposed Jannayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University.
The university is expected to provide greater opportunities for skill-based higher education and advanced technical training in the state.
More Focus on Apprenticeships
All nodal ITIs will be directed to strengthen implementation of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
The department also plans to establish alumni associations at ITIs. Former students can contribute through their industry experience, professional networks and technical expertise, helping current trainees gain better exposure to the workplace.
Private ITIs to Face Closer Monitoring
The department has also decided to form special inspection teams to monitor private ITIs.
Other administrative measures include increasing support and sanitation staff at government ITIs based on requirements and preparing a proposal for expanding the Vishwakarma scheme.
The latest decisions focus on making Bihar’s technical education system more accessible and industry-oriented. Better accommodation for women, renewable energy infrastructure, apprenticeships and stronger institutional networks could help ITIs provide more practical training and improve employment prospects for young people.
