Patna: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Bihar government on Sunday transferred 16 senior IPS officers across key departments and operational units, signaling a major reorganization in the state police leadership.
The Home Department issued a formal notification announcing the changes, which include the appointment of Vikas Vaibhav as Inspector General (IG) of Magadh Zone, Gaya, and Sudhanshu Kumar as Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order.
The reshuffle affects several crucial wings, including the Economic Offences Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Cyber Crime and Security Unit, Bihar Special Armed Police, Railways, and Technical Services.
Sudhanshu Kumar Takes Over as ADG (Law and Order)
Senior IPS officer Sudhanshu Kumar, a 1996-batch officer, has been transferred from his previous assignment as ADG of the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation to assume one of the most critical posts in the state police hierarchy – ADG (Law and Order).

His appointment comes at a time when the Bihar government is focusing on strengthening law enforcement and internal security across the state.
Vikas Vaibhav Appointed IG of Magadh Zone
Popular IPS officer Vikas Vaibhav has returned to an active policing role after serving as Adviser to the Bihar State Planning Board. He has now been posted as Inspector General of the Magadh Zone headquartered in Gaya.
Known for his dynamic leadership and strong public outreach, Vaibhav’s appointment is expected to enhance policing and administrative coordination in the strategically important Magadh region.
Major Promotions and Departmental Realignments
The reshuffle also includes several promotions and high-level departmental changes:
- Paresh Saxena (1994 batch), ADG of Civil Defence, has been promoted to Director General in the same department.
- Nirmal Kumar Azad (1994 batch), formerly ADG of Technical Services and Communication, has been appointed Director General (Training).
- Amit Kumar Jain (1996 batch) will now serve as ADG of the Economic Offences Unit.
- Nayyar Hasnain Khan (1996 batch) has been posted as ADG of the Bihar Special Armed Police.
Amit Lodha Shifted to Technical Services and Communication
Well-known IPS officer and author Amit Lodha (1998 batch) has been transferred from the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation to head the Wireless and Technical Services wing as ADG.
The transfer places him in charge of Bihar Police’s critical communication and technology infrastructure.
Cyber Crime, CID and Special Branch Get New Leadership
Several sensitive wings have also received new officers:
- Amrit Raj (1998 batch) has been appointed ADG of the Cyber Crime-cum-Security Unit.
- K S Anupam, previously Special Secretary in the Home Department’s Special Branch, will serve as ADG (Weaker Sections), CID.
- Ranjit Kumar Mishra, formerly IG of the Cyber Crime and Security Unit, has been transferred to CID.
- Sanjay Kumar, who was serving in the Bihar Special Armed Police, has been appointed IG of the Special Branch.
Railways, Provisioning and Welfare Wings Restructured
Other notable changes include:
- Kamal Kishore Singh appointed as ADG (Railways).
- Ajitabh Kumar assigned charge of the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation.
- Sanjay Singh transferred from ADG (Training) to head Budget, Appeals and Welfare.
- P Kannan moved from IG (Railways) to IG (Provisioning).
