Patna: The Bihar government has announced a large-scale driver training campaign to reduce road accidents and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules. Under the “Saat Nishchay Yojana-3” initiatives, specifically the “Sabka Samman” and “Jeevan Aasaan” programs, the safety of pedestrians will also be a key focus.

The first phase of the program is currently underway in Patna and Aurangabad, where drivers are being trained on essential road safety practices. Starting 1 April 2026, the training will be extended to all districts of Bihar, covering both government and private vehicle operators. Training sessions will be held every Saturday to allow drivers to participate without affecting their daily duties.

Focus Areas of the Road Safety Training

The training program will emphasize key aspects of safe driving, including:

  • Stopping at zebra crossings and pedestrian crossings
  • Minimizing horn use
  • Proper use of seat belts
  • Rules for overtaking and maintaining safe distance
  • Adhering to speed limits
  • Observing traffic signals
  • Other critical road safety measures

The Bihar Transport Department has prepared a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlining training modules, duration, certification, and monitoring systems to ensure uniformity and effectiveness.

Secretary Highlights Importance of Regular Training

Raj Kumar, Secretary of the Transport Department, stated that negligence and disregard for traffic rules are the main causes of road accidents. “Our aim is to include all government and private bus drivers, taxi operators, truck drivers, and other commercial vehicle operators in this program. Regular training will raise awareness and help prevent accidents,” he said.

He further noted that the first phase of training in Patna and Aurangabad has already shown positive results, with noticeable improvements in driver awareness. The statewide rollout will aim to make Bihar’s roads safer for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.

Training to Enhance Safety for All Road Users

The initiative reflects Bihar’s commitment to comprehensive road safety under the Chief Minister’s development vision. By educating drivers and enforcing road discipline, the government hopes to significantly reduce accidents, protect pedestrians, and improve overall traffic management in the state.
