Patna: Bihar has moved ahead with plans to establish an advanced Sports Science Centre at the State Sports Academy in Rajgir, with the tender process expected to begin next week.
The Cabinet has already approved the High-Performance Sports Training and Injury Centre, which aims to provide athletes with modern scientific training, medical support and rehabilitation facilities.
Bihar Team Studies Odisha Model
The Sports Department plans to develop the facility based on the Odisha model. A team of Bihar experts has travelled to Odisha to study its high-performance sports infrastructure, technology, training systems and athlete support services.
The findings will help Bihar design the centre according to modern sports science standards.

Advanced Performance Analysis
The proposed centre will feature a biomechanics and performance analysis laboratory with motion-capture and 3D camera systems. Experts will use these technologies to study athletes’ running, throwing and jumping techniques.
Force plates will measure foot pressure and ground reaction forces during running and jumping. Sports physiology facilities will use advanced treadmills and mask analysis to assess cardiovascular and oxygen capacity.
Lactate threshold testing will also help experts understand fatigue levels and develop personalised training programmes.
Modern Injury Rehabilitation
The centre will provide specialised rehabilitation facilities to help athletes recover from injuries and return to competition.
Planned facilities include hydrotherapy, hot-tub therapy, laser and ultrasound therapy, dry needling, cryotherapy and an anti-gravity treadmill.
The anti-gravity treadmill will allow injured athletes to gradually resume walking and running while reducing the load on their injured limbs.
Nutrition and Mental Preparation
The facility will also focus on sports nutrition and mental conditioning. Sports nutritionists will prepare diet plans according to individual athletes’ physical and sporting requirements.
Sports psychologists will help athletes manage competition pressure, improve confidence and develop mental resilience.
Focus on World-Class Training
Bihar Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh said the government aims to provide athletes from villages and smaller towns with world-class facilities and better opportunities.
The Sports Science Centre is expected to strengthen Bihar’s high-performance sports ecosystem by combining scientific training, medical care, rehabilitation and athlete support.
The state hopes the initiative will help more Bihar athletes compete at upcoming Commonwealth and Olympic Games and improve their chances of winning medals.
