The All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition, a 53-day, 2500 km journey from Gangotri to Gangasagar, concluded on December 24, 2024, at Diamond Harbor, West Bengal. Sponsored by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), the expedition aimed to promote women’s empowerment and the mission of a clean and pure Ganga.
Mr. Daljit Singh Chawdhary, 1990-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, Director General of BSF, officially welcomed the team of 20 courageous women border guards who undertook this unprecedented journey. The expedition began on November 2, 2024, from Gangotri and reached its final stop, Gangasagar, on December 22, 2024, where the team offered prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple.
Throughout the journey, the expedition spread awareness about women’s empowerment, clean Ganga, and women’s health while encouraging participation in adventure sports. In each city and village en route, awareness rallies and programs engaged thousands of locals, school students, and women, emphasizing river conservation, pollution control, and the ecological significance of the Ganga. Quiz competitions and interactive sessions further educated communities about water conservation and environmental protection.
At the Diamond Harbor ceremony, a short film documenting the expedition was screened. Mr. Chawdhary, alongside senior BSF officers and jawans, took an oath for a clean Ganga. He honoured the women guards and officers with the Director General’s Commendation Certificate and Roll.
In his address, Mr. Chawdhary stated, “The All-Women Ganga River Rafting Expedition is a testament to the unmatched courage and commitment of BSF women border guards. This initiative not only inspires women but also reinforces our national mission of a clean Ganga and environmental protection.”
The expedition symbolizes a powerful blend of adventure, environmental stewardship, and social empowerment, leaving a lasting impact on the communities along the Ganga.
