Nearly a year after the civil service cadre of Jammu and Kashmir was merged with those of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in an order issued on March 9 reconstituted the AGMUT cadre. Is.
According to the order, 70 posts of Indian Police Service (IPS) have been allotted to Jammu and Kashmir and the sanctioned number of posts for Ladakh is 10. Apart from these 80 IPS posts, there are also state service cadres (officers who become IPS through promotion) in both these union territories.
A senior IPS officer serving in the union territory said, “The total number of IPS officers for Jammu and Kashmir was around 80 earlier also.” He added that like in the north-eastern states, all IPS posts are now likely to be filled.
“The officers serving in hard areas get special incentives. The strength of J&K cadre was decreasing for the last few years but with this restructuring, we can expect an increase in the recruitment and deployment of IPS officers in the region.
“In Jammu and Kashmir, before the abrogation of Article 370, the sanctioned cadre strength was 147 but many posts remained vacant,” he said.
The government has increased the strength of AGMUT IPS cadre (including All India Service officers as well as State Service cadre) to 148 since the last reorganization in 2017 by combining these Union Territories divided into Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
