New Delhi: The Central Government on Friday issued a series of important appointment, tenure extension and repatriation orders involving senior IAS, IPS and IRS officers serving in key ministries and departments.
The latest notifications issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) include the entrustment of additional charge to a serving Secretary, a lateral shift of an IAS officer, curtailment of an IPS officer’s tenure in the Election Commission of India, repatriation of a senior IRS officer and extension of tenure for a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Niraj Verma Gets Additional Charge of Parliamentary Affairs Secretary
Niraj Verma (IAS:1994: AGMUT), currently serving as Secretary, Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
According to the official order, Verma will hold the additional responsibility from June 13 to June 19, 2026, during the leave period of Nikunja Bihari Dhal (IAS:1993: Odisha), who is the incumbent Secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The temporary arrangement ensures continuity in the functioning of the ministry during Dhal’s absence.
Mrunmai Shashank Joshi Shifted to Department of Economic Affairs
Mrunmai Shashank Joshi (IAS:2013: Kerala), currently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance.
The appointment has been made on a “lateral shift” basis.
As per the notification, Joshi will continue in the new assignment until March 21, 2027.
The Department of Economic Affairs plays a crucial role in formulating and monitoring the country’s economic policies, financial regulations and macroeconomic management.
Manoj C’s Tenure in Election Commission Curtailed
In another significant development, the tenure of Manoj C (IPS:2011: AGMUT), who has been serving as Director in the Election Commission of India, has been curtailed.
The government notification confirmed the curtailment of his central deputation tenure. However, no specific reason was mentioned in the order.
The Election Commission of India remains one of the most important constitutional institutions responsible for conducting elections and ensuring electoral integrity across the country.
IRS Officer Manoj Kumar Repatriated to Parent Cadre
Manoj Kumar (IRS-IT:1994), who was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Ministry of Finance, has been repatriated to his parent cadre.
The repatriation has been approved on personal grounds.
DIPAM is responsible for managing government investments in public sector enterprises and overseeing strategic disinvestment and asset monetisation initiatives.
Uday Gaurishankar Gets Two-Year Extension
The government has also approved the extension of tenure of Chaudhari Uday Gaurishankar (IAS:2010: Maharashtra), Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
His tenure has been extended by two years beyond June 23, 2026.
The extension reflects the government’s decision to continue his services in the ministry at a time when environmental governance, climate commitments and sustainability initiatives remain key policy priorities.
Routine Administrative Adjustments at the Centre
The latest set of appointments and tenure-related decisions form part of the Centre’s routine administrative management aimed at ensuring continuity in governance, effective functioning of ministries and optimal utilisation of experienced officers across departments.
The notifications involve officers from the IAS, IPS and IRS services occupying key positions in law, finance, environment, parliamentary affairs and election administration, highlighting the importance of experienced leadership in critical areas of government functioning.
