Raipur: In a major push toward agro-forestry and rural income enhancement, Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap has urged farmers to adopt teak plantation as a long-term and highly profitable “green investment.” Speaking at a one-day workshop on “Teak Management and Advanced Teak Plantation” held at Aranya Bhavan in Nava Raipur, the minister emphasized that teak cultivation can play a transformative role in doubling farmers’ income and strengthening the rural economy.
The event brought together agricultural experts, scientists, and farmers to discuss modern teak cultivation techniques and government support schemes aimed at promoting commercial forestry on private land.
“Teak is a Safe and Profitable Green Investment”: Minister Kedar Kashyap
Addressing the gathering, Kedar Kashyap described teak not merely as a tree but as a long-term financial asset for farmers. He compared teak plantation to traditional savings instruments, stating that planting a teak sapling today is as secure as investing in a bank fixed deposit, with potentially much higher future returns.
He said a single teak tree can significantly contribute to a farmer’s financial stability over time, helping improve livelihoods, support children’s education, and strengthen rural prosperity.

Government Push for Agro-Forestry Under National and State Leadership
The minister highlighted that under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, the state is actively promoting agro-forestry alongside traditional agriculture.
He said the government is working to enhance farmers’ income by encouraging tree-based farming systems and commercial plantations on private land. Special schemes and financial assistance programs are being implemented to support this transition.
Up to 100% Grant for Teak Plantation on Private Land
A major highlight of the announcement was the government’s financial support for farmers adopting teak cultivation. According to the minister:
- Farmers planting teak on up to five acres of private land are eligible for 100% financial grant
- Additional financial assistance is available for large-scale or mega plantation projects
This initiative aims to reduce financial barriers and encourage widespread adoption of teak-based agro-forestry across the state.
Tissue Culture Technology to Boost Yield and Quality
Kedar Kashyap emphasized the importance of modern scientific methods in improving agricultural outcomes. He specifically highlighted Tissue Culture technology as a breakthrough in teak cultivation.
According to him, tissue culture-based teak saplings:
- Grow faster than traditional saplings
- Offer improved quality timber
- Yield higher market value, increasing farmer income
This scientific approach is expected to make teak cultivation more profitable and efficient in the long term.
Intercropping and Thinning for Additional Income
The minister also advised farmers to adopt integrated farming techniques during the early stages of teak growth. He noted that:
- Farmers can grow intercrops between teak saplings to generate early income
- Scientific “thinning” of trees at appropriate stages can provide additional financial benefits
These practices ensure that farmers can earn while waiting for long-term returns from timber production.

Chhattisgarh Emerging as a Hub for Teak Production
Experts present at the workshop highlighted that Chhattisgarh’s soil and climate conditions are highly suitable for teak cultivation. They noted strong potential for expanding teak-based agro-forestry across multiple regions of the state.
They added that with scientific plantation methods, teak could become a major driver of rural wealth generation in the coming decades.
“Har Khet Mein Sagwan, Har Kisan Samriddh”: Vision for Rural Prosperity
Concluding his address, Kedar Kashyap called upon farmers to actively participate in the state’s plantation drive. He reiterated the government’s vision:
“Har khet mein Sagwan, har kisan samriddh” (Teak in every field, every farmer prosperous)
He described this initiative as a historic step toward rural development and the economic self-reliance of farmers in Chhattisgarh, positioning agro-forestry as a key pillar of future agricultural growth.
