New Delhi: India’s scientific ecosystem received a major boost as CSIR Technologies Licensed to Industry became the highlight of a major technology transfer event held at CSIR Headquarters in New Delhi. The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) transferred seven indigenous technologies to industry partners, released ten Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas (BNDs), and handed over critical quantum sensing components to DRDO.

The move supports India’s growing focus on technology commercialization, quality standards, and strategic self-reliance. According to official government information, the event was jointly organized by CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) and CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI).

What Are Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas

Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas (BNDs) are certified Indian reference materials used to ensure accurate testing, calibration, and quality control.

They help laboratories and industries maintain reliable measurement standards comparable to global benchmarks. Previous BNDs have already been used in sectors such as water testing, petroleum products, pharmaceuticals, precious metals, and construction materials.

Newly Released BNDs

The latest release includes:

  • 8 phytochemical BNDs
  • 1 precious metal BND
  • 1 propane gas BND

These reference materials will support:

  • Testing laboratories
  • Regulatory agencies
  • Pharmaceutical and herbal industries
  • Quality assurance systems
  • Scientific research organizations

The initiative will improve measurement accuracy, traceability, and product quality across multiple sectors.

Key Highlights of Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas

  • 7 CSIR-developed technologies licensed to industry.
  • 10 Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas (BNDs) released.
  • Quantum sensing components delivered to DRDO.
  • Event held at CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi.
  • Focus on indigenous innovation and technology commercialization.
  • Supports India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and advanced manufacturing.

What Happened at the Event

The Technology Transfer and Bharatiya Nirdeshak Document (BND) Release Function brought together scientists, industry leaders, technology adopters, and policymakers.

The event showcased how government-funded research is being converted into practical solutions for industries and strategic sectors. Officials emphasized that scientific innovation must move from laboratories to real-world applications to generate economic and societal benefits.

Seven CSIR Technologies Licensed to Industry

Among the technologies transferred were solutions designed for infrastructure, transportation safety, environmental sustainability, and industrial efficiency. Some notable technologies include:

  • VInSD-VAIU – Drone-based non-destructive testing system for bridge inspection.
  • PAVE-SEAL – Air-cleaning nano photocatalytic paving seal emulsion.
  • PATCHFILL – Advanced pothole repair machine.
  • CLARIVISOR – Device developed for reducing glare and improving road safety.

These technologies are expected to help industries improve efficiency while supporting safer and more sustainable infrastructure development.

Quantum Sensing Components Delivered to DRDO

A major milestone during the event was the handover of five vapor cells developed by CSIR-NPL to the Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), DRDO.

These components are critical for quantum sensing applications. Quantum sensors use the properties of atoms and light to make extremely precise measurements that are difficult for conventional sensors to achieve. They can be used in navigation, defense systems, environmental monitoring, and advanced scientific research.

The transfer demonstrates India’s growing capability in developing advanced quantum technologies domestically.

What is the Importance of Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas

The event reflects three important national priorities:

1. Strengthening Technology Commercialization

Research developed in laboratories is reaching industries faster, helping create jobs and economic growth.

2. Improving Quality Standards

BNDs will help Indian products meet global quality requirements through accurate testing and calibration.

3. Advancing Strategic Technologies

The transfer of quantum sensing components to DRDO strengthens India’s capabilities in next-generation defense and sensing technologies.
