New Delhi: India and Ivory Coast defence cooperation received a major boost after the Chief of Staff of the Côte d’Ivoire Air Force, Air Major General Koffi N’Guessan Alfred, visited New Delhi. During the visit, he met Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to discuss stronger military cooperation, training and future defence partnerships. The visit reflects India’s growing defence engagement with African nations.

India Ivory Coast Defence Partnership: High-Level Military Talks Held In New Delhi

Air Major General Koffi N’Guessan Alfred met Air Chief Marshal AP Singh during his official visit to India. The two military leaders discussed bilateral defence ties, regional security, military cooperation and new opportunities to strengthen relations between the Indian Air Force and the Ivory Coast Air Force.

The visiting Air Force chief was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at Air Headquarters in New Delhi. The ceremony highlighted the importance India places on its defence relationship with Côte d’Ivoire.

Defence Secretary Reviews Future Cooperation

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh also met Air Major General Alfred on July 27. Both sides reviewed ongoing defence cooperation and discussed new areas where India can support the capability development of the Ivory Coast Air Force through closer collaboration.

Officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding bilateral defence relations and strengthening military-to-military engagement in the coming years.

India Ivory Coast Defence Partnership: Focus On Air Force Modernisation

One of the main topics during the discussions was improving the operational capabilities of the Ivory Coast Air Force. India expressed its willingness to work with Côte d’Ivoire in areas such as professional military engagement, knowledge sharing, training and defence cooperation. Official statements did not announce any new defence agreement or equipment deal.

India’s Growing Defence Partnership With Africa

The visit is part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen defence partnerships across Africa. India has increased cooperation with several African countries through military training, defence diplomacy, capacity building and high-level exchanges. These partnerships help improve regional security while expanding India’s strategic presence on the continent.

Strong India–Ivory Coast Diplomatic Relations

India and Côte d’Ivoire have enjoyed friendly diplomatic relations for decades. India opened its Embassy in Abidjan in 1979, while Côte d’Ivoire established its Resident Mission in New Delhi in 2004. The two countries also cooperate at the United Nations and other international organisations on several global issues. Côte d’Ivoire has supported India’s position on terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir and non-interference in internal affairs. In 2020, it also ratified the amended International Solar Alliance agreement.
