New Delhi: izmo Microsystems has successfully developed and qualified an indigenous Pitch Detector for defence avionics, marking an important step towards strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. The Indian-made component will help military aircraft and helicopters measure pitch attitude and provide correction data to their navigation systems.

The development will also reduce India’s dependence on imported defence components.

Details of Indigenous Pitch Detector For Military Aircraft Navigation

izmo Microsystems Limited announced that its semiconductor subsidiary, izmo Microsystems Pvt. Ltd., had successfully developed and completed the defence qualification of an indigenous Pitch Detector.

The component is an important part of aircraft navigation systems. It senses aircraft pitch attitude, which refers to the angle of an aircraft’s nose in relation to the horizon.

The technology provides correction data to the gyromagnetic compass navigation system, helping aircraft maintain accurate navigation information.

Why Is The Indigenous Pitch Detector For Military Aircraft Navigation Important

The earlier Pitch Detector was imported from a foreign manufacturer. However, irregular and limited supplies created operational challenges for military aircraft and helicopters that depended on the component.

To address this problem, izmo Microsystems started an indigenous development programme to create a fully compatible Indian replacement.

The new development aims to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthen India’s domestic defence supply chain.

How Did izmo Microsystems Develop The Indian Replacement

izmo Microsystems successfully redesigned and re-engineered the original component without access to its original design documentation.

The company redesigned its electronics using modern technology and developed a fully compatible replacement in India.

The component was designed and manufactured at the company’s DSIR-recognised advanced semiconductor packaging facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Indigenous Pitch Detector Meets Military Reliability Standards

One of the most important achievements is that the newly developed Pitch Detector successfully qualified under MIL-PRF-38534, a military reliability standard for electronic components and hybrid microcircuits.

This qualification demonstrates that the component has met the required military standards for reliability and performance.

The achievement also highlights the company’s ability to manage the complete product development process, including design, engineering, manufacturing and qualification.
