Government Push for Zero Disruption During Monsoon
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed all concerned departments to work proactively and ensure that residents of Delhi do not face any form of hardship during the monsoon season.
She stressed that preventing waterlogging in vulnerable areas must remain the top priority and that all departments should be fully active on the ground with strong inter-agency coordination.
Enhanced Drainage and Flood Prevention Measures
To reduce the risk of water accumulation in flood-prone zones, the government has strengthened its infrastructure and response systems.
Key measures include:
- Increased deployment of water pumping systems in flood-sensitive areas
- Appointment of dedicated nodal officers for each waterlogging-prone location
- Real-time monitoring of drainage systems across the city
Authorities highlighted that these measures aim to ensure quick response and efficient water removal during heavy rainfall events.
Desilting Drive and 24×7 Monitoring System
The government has issued strict instructions for timely maintenance and monitoring of drainage systems:
Drain Cleaning and Desilting
All major and minor drains must undergo complete desilting (removal of silt and debris) before the onset of peak monsoon. Officials have been instructed to ensure strict compliance within the deadline.
Mobile Pumping Systems
For emergency waterlogging situations, mobile pumping units will be kept on standby to enable rapid drainage in affected areas.
Central Flood Control Room
A Central Flood Control Room will operate round the clock (24×7) to monitor water levels, drainage conditions, and rainfall activity across Delhi. Digital surveillance systems will also support real-time decision-making.
Participation of Senior Leaders and Officials
The high-level meeting was attended by several senior political leaders and administrative officials.
Prominent attendees included MPs Yogendra Chandolia, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Manoj Tiwari, along with cabinet ministers Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Ravindra Indraj.
