Firozabad (UP): Allegations levelled against District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan, an IAS officer of 2013 batch from UP cadre, have been described as baseless by administrative officials, even as a departmental inquiry is currently underway against the Tehsildar who made the claims.
Sources within the administration indicated that the accusations surfaced shortly after a transfer order issued by the District Magistrate, raising questions about their timing and intent.
Allegations Follow Transfer Order
According to officials, the allegations were made by Rakhi Sharma, Tehsildar of Tundla, following her transfer. Administrative sources suggest that multiple inquiries were already pending against her prior to the transfer.
Officials further stated that her salary had earlier been withheld due to an adverse entry in her service record.

Court Intervention and Prior Proceedings
The Tehsildar had challenged the salary withholding in the Allahabad High Court. However, instead of granting relief, the court directed that an inquiry be conducted into the matter.
In a separate development, her appeal was also dismissed by the Agra Commissioner, further strengthening the administrative position.
Claims of Harassment and Corruption Allegations
In a press conference, Rakhi Sharma alleged that the District Magistrate had harassed her and demanded expensive items, including an iPhone and an Apple Watch worth ₹1.75 lakh.

She claimed that her salary was withheld for months and that she was subjected to prolonged harassment. She also appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for intervention and a fair investigation.
Officials Cite Violation of Conduct Rules
Administrative sources maintain that making such allegations publicly after a transfer may constitute a violation of service conduct rules.
They suggested that the claims appear to be reactionary and linked to the transfer order rather than grounded in substantiated evidence.
Measured Administrative Response
Despite the controversy, the district administration has adopted a restrained approach, allowing due process to take its course without interference.
Officials emphasised that investigative agencies have been given full autonomy to examine the matter thoroughly, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Focus on Institutional Accountability
Beyond the immediate case, authorities are also reviewing existing administrative systems and safeguards to prevent similar disputes in the future.
Observers note that in complex governance environments, maintaining coordination between departments and ensuring institutional accountability is critical to sustaining public trust.
