The NITI Aayog, India’s premier policy think-tank, has undergone a significant reconstitution under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a recent move, the government has appointed four full-time members and included 15 Union Ministers, representing both BJP allies and ex-officio members.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to serve as the Chairperson, with economist Suman K Bery retained as the Vice-Chairperson, according to an official notification.
The full-time members of NITI Aayog now include scientist VK Saraswat, agricultural economist Ramesh Chand, paediatrician VK Paul, and macro-economist Arvind Virmani.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh (Defence), Amit Shah (Home), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Agriculture), and Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance) have been appointed as ex-officio members.
Additionally, the reconstituted NITI Aayog includes special invitees such as Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Jagat Prakash Nadda, H D Kumaraswamy, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Virendra Kumar, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Jual Oram, Annpurna Devi, Chirag Paswan, and Rao Inderjit Singh.
This diverse composition reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive policy-making and holistic development across sectors.
NITI Aayog was established in 2015 as a replacement for the Planning Commission, marking a shift towards more dynamic and innovative policy frameworks.
