New Delhi: India-Australia uranium supply pact is expected to reach a major milestone during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Melbourne, Australia. The long-awaited agreement could allow Australia to supply uranium for India’s civilian nuclear power programme. If signed, the deal will strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries and support India’s growing clean energy needs.

The agreement follows the Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, signed by both countries in 2014. Although the framework was ready years ago, commercial uranium exports were delayed because of technical safeguards linked to international nuclear non-proliferation rules. Those issues have now reportedly been resolved.
