Gandhinagar: A total of 415 newly selected Agriculture Assistants formally joined the State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department in Gujarat following an appointment letter distribution process held in Gandhinagar on 02 June 2026.
The ceremony was organized in a simple yet dignified manner in response to the appeal of the Prime Minister of India during the current global situation, emphasizing public service, self-reliance, and sustainable agricultural development. Out of the 415 appointees, 21 youth received symbolic appointment letters in person, while the remaining candidates were issued their appointment letters through email.
CM Bhupendra Patel Highlights Role of Youth in Natural Farming and Aatmanirbharta
Addressing the newly appointed candidates, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized that the young workforce has a significant opportunity to contribute to Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) by promoting natural farming practices and reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers.
He stated that in the current global context, agriculture assistants play a crucial role in encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable and healthier farming methods, including reduced fertilizer usage and environmentally responsible practices.
The Chief Minister urged the new recruits to serve farmers through:
- Innovation in agricultural practices
- Effective use of modern technology
- Continuous self-learning and upgradation of skills
He also highlighted that their work will contribute to the vision of Viksit Gujarat and Viksit Bharat, where farmers remain a key pillar of national development.
Agriculture Minister Calls New Recruits “Karmayogis”
State Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani congratulated the selected candidates and described them as “Karmayogis,” stressing that their role goes beyond employment and represents public service to farmers.
He noted that the agriculture sector remains the backbone of the national economy and that joining the department is a meaningful opportunity to directly serve the farming community.
He further emphasized that due to transparent recruitment policies of the state government, selection has been based purely on merit and hard work, without intermediaries.
Focus on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” and Sustainable Agriculture
The Agriculture Minister also spoke about the importance of the ongoing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” (Save Farm Campaign), urging newly appointed assistants to help curb the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
He encouraged them to:
- Promote awareness about natural farming
- Guide farmers towards sustainable practices
- Protect soil health and agricultural land for future generations
He advised the recruits to prioritize field experience in their early years of service rather than seeking transfers or administrative convenience, helping them become more capable and experienced officers.

Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department R.C. Meena welcomed the newly appointed Agriculture Assistants and provided an overview of the recruitment process. He highlighted that the selection was carried out through a transparent, merit-based system, ensuring fairness at every stage—from application to final appointment.
