In a major breakthrough against maritime narcotics trafficking, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Gujarat, seized nearly 115 kilograms of cocaine during a high-stakes anti-smuggling operation off the Mundra coast in Gujarat.
The operation, carried out between May 25 and 26, 2026, resulted in the recovery of narcotics valued at an estimated ₹1150 crore in the international market.
Intelligence-Based Operation Launched Near Mundra Anchorage
According to an official statement issued by the government, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs shared by ATS Gujarat.
Acting swiftly, ICG interceptor boats carrying ATS personnel conducted an extensive search operation in the Mundra anchorage area. During the mission, officials detected suspicious movement linked to a container vessel operating in the region.
Five Bags Recovered From Sea During Chase
Demonstrating rapid operational coordination, the joint team moved immediately to the suspected location and recovered five bags floating in the sea.
Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain 115 packets of a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine. Each packet weighed around one kilogram, taking the total seized contraband to approximately 115 kg.
The vessel linked to the operation has since been brought to port for further investigation by authorities.
15th Successful Joint Anti-Narcotics Mission in Five Years
Officials highlighted that this marks the 15th successful anti-narcotics operation jointly conducted by the Indian Coast Guard and ATS Gujarat over the last five years.
The latest seizure underscores India’s intensified maritime surveillance and anti-smuggling efforts aimed at strengthening coastal security and advancing the national mission of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat.”
