New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Steel, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EdCIL (India) Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Education, to establish Smart Digital Classrooms under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The agreement was signed on May 26, 2026, with the aim of promoting inclusive education and improving learning outcomes in schools located around SAIL’s operational areas.
Focus on Inclusive and Quality Education
Under the collaboration, Smart Digital Classrooms will be set up in selected schools to enhance access to modern learning tools and digital education infrastructure. The initiative is designed to support inclusive education and improve overall teaching and learning outcomes for students in surrounding communities. Officials said the project reflects SAIL’s commitment to social development through education-focused CSR initiatives.

Aligned with NEP 2020 and SDG 4 Goals
The project is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG-4), which focuses on ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. The use of digital classrooms is expected to bridge learning gaps and promote better educational opportunities for students in underserved regions.
MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Officials
The MoU was signed in the presence of K.K. Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL, along with senior officials from both SAIL and EdCIL. Officials from both organisations highlighted the importance of technology-enabled education in strengthening the country’s school education system.
Strengthening Education Infrastructure Through CSR
This collaboration marks a significant step in leveraging CSR funds for building modern education infrastructure in communities around industrial areas.
The initiative aims to provide students with improved access to digital learning resources and interactive teaching methods.
