SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant Renews MoU with NDDB to Continue Gift Milk Programme for School Children in Odisha

CSR initiative to provide fortified milk to 1,758 students across 37 schools aims to improve nutrition, health, and attendance in Bisra and Kuarmunda blocks

New Delhi: The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to continue the Gift Milk Programme, a key CSR initiative focused on child nutrition and education support.

The MoU was signed on March 30, 2026, ensuring continuation of the programme from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

Gift Milk Programme to Benefit 1,758 Students

Under the renewed agreement, the initiative will support 1,758 primary school students across 37 schools in the Bisra and Kuarmunda blocks of Odisha.

The programme provides 200 ml of fortified flavored milk daily on working school days, helping improve:

  • Nutrition levels among children
  • Physical growth and immunity
  • Classroom participation and engagement
  • Overall school attendance

Focus on Child Health and Education

The CSR initiative aims to address nutritional deficiencies among school children in rural and semi-urban areas. Officials believe that improved nutrition directly contributes to better learning outcomes and academic performance.

The programme is also expected to encourage regular school attendance by making school-based nutrition support a consistent benefit.

MoU Signed in Presence of Officials

The MoU was signed by:

  • T.G. Kanekar, CGM (TS & CSR), RSP
  • Shelly Topno, Manager (NDDB), Kolkata

Several senior officials from RSP CSR division and NDDB were also present during the signing ceremony, highlighting the continued institutional collaboration.

CSR Commitment for Sustainable Community Impact

The Gift Milk Programme reflects RSP’s long-term commitment to community development through targeted CSR interventions. By supporting child nutrition and education, the initiative aims to create lasting social impact in surrounding communities.
