New Delhi: The Central Government on Saturday issued a series of appointment notifications involving senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across key central police, investigative and training organizations. The appointments include elevations to the rank of Inspector General (IG) and senior leadership positions in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Border Security Force (BSF) and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA).
The latest appointments reflect the government’s continued focus on strengthening leadership across critical security, intelligence, border management and police training institutions.
Janmejaya Khanduri Appointed Inspector General in ITBP
Among the notable appointments, Janmejaya Khanduri (IPS: 2007: Uttarakhand), currently serving as Deputy Director in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), has been appointed as Inspector General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
According to the notification, Khanduri will serve in the post for the remainder of his central deputation tenure, which extends up to February 9, 2030. His central deputation is counted with effect from February 10, 2025.
The appointment places him in one of the country’s most important border-guarding forces responsible for securing India’s frontier with China across difficult Himalayan terrain.
Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat Elevated as Joint Director, SVP NPA
The Centre has also approved the appointment of Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat (IPS: 2008: Karnataka) as Joint Director at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA).
Prior to this appointment, she was serving as Deputy Director in the Academy. Her elevation is expected to further strengthen leadership and training functions at India’s premier police training institution, which is responsible for grooming IPS probationers and conducting advanced professional courses for senior police officers.
Dr Ram Niwas Sepat Appointed Joint Director in SVP NPA
In another significant move, Dr Ram Niwas Sepat (IPS: 2008: Karnataka) has also been elevated from the position of Deputy Director to Joint Director in SVP NPA.
The appointment highlights the Centre’s emphasis on enhancing institutional leadership within the National Police Academy, which plays a critical role in shaping future police leadership in the country.
Nitasha Guria Elevated as Inspector General in BPR&D
Nitasha Guria (IPS: 2008: Bihar), who has been serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), has been appointed as Inspector General in the organisation.
The BPR&D serves as the country’s apex institution for police modernization, research, training, correctional administration and development of policing best practices. Guria’s elevation is expected to contribute to ongoing reforms and modernization initiatives within India’s policing ecosystem.
Vikas Burman Appointed Inspector General in ITBP
The Government has also approved the appointment of Vikas Burman (IPS: 2008: Bihar) as Inspector General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Previously serving as DIG in the force, Burman will continue in ITBP at the higher rank for the remainder of his tenure, which extends up to September 4, 2029.
His promotion strengthens the senior leadership structure of the border guarding force at a time when border management and surveillance remain key national security priorities.
Vikas Pathak Elevated as Inspector General in BSF
Vikas Pathak (IPS: 2008: Rajasthan), currently serving as DIG in the Border Security Force (BSF), has been appointed as Inspector General in the force.
The BSF remains India’s primary border guarding force along the Pakistan and Bangladesh frontiers. Pathak’s elevation comes amid the continued emphasis on border security, anti-infiltration measures and technological modernization.
Rahul S Appointed Inspector General in NIA
The Centre has elevated Rahul S (IPS: 2008: Punjab) from DIG to Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA serves as India’s premier counter-terrorism investigation agency and handles some of the country’s most sensitive national security cases. Rahul S will continue in the organisation for the remainder of his deputation tenure.
Davuluri Shravan Elevated as Inspector General in NIA
Another significant appointment involves Davuluri Shravan (IPS: 2008: Chhattisgarh), who has also been promoted from DIG to Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Shravan’s elevation further strengthens the senior investigative leadership within the agency, which continues to play a critical role in tackling terrorism, organized crime, extremist networks and transnational security threats.
Strengthening Leadership Across Key Security Institutions
The latest appointments span a diverse range of institutions, including border guarding forces, counter-terrorism agencies, police modernization bodies and premier training establishments. The appointments are expected to enhance leadership capacity across these organizations while providing experienced officers with greater operational and administrative responsibilities.
Several of the officers elevated through these orders belong to the 2007 and 2008 IPS batches and bring extensive field and central deputation experience to their new assignments.
The appointments also underscore the Centre’s continued efforts to place experienced officers in key positions across India’s internal security architecture, policing institutions and border management agencies.
