Lucknow: A group of 21 IPS officer trainees from the 2025 batch visited the UP-112 headquarters in Lucknow on Friday as part of the Bharat Darshan programme, gaining first-hand exposure to one of India’s largest integrated emergency response systems.

The visit was aimed at familiarising future police leaders with technology-driven policing, real-time emergency response and citizen-centric service delivery. During the interaction, the probationers observed how UP-112 manages thousands of emergency requests through an integrated command-and-control system that connects multiple emergency services across Uttar Pradesh.

The delegation comprised 17 male and four female probationers, currently undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad.

Understanding the UP-112 Emergency Response Model

During the visit, the trainees toured the Call Operations Hall and Dispatch Hall, where officials demonstrated the complete emergency response cycle—from receiving distress calls to dispatching police response vehicles.

The officers witnessed live operations, including:

  • Emergency call handling
  • Call-flow management
  • Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
  • Deployment of Police Response Vehicles (PRVs)

Officials explained how technology helps reduce response time and ensures faster assistance to citizens across the state.

Technology at the Core of Emergency Policing

Senior officials briefed the IPS probationers on several technological innovations powering the UP-112 system. Among the key technologies showcased were Auto Dispatch, which enables quicker deployment of response teams, and Google’s Emergency Location Service (ELS).

The ELS technology helps emergency teams accurately identify a caller’s location using GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular network data, even when the caller is unable to communicate their exact location. Officials said these technologies have significantly improved the efficiency and accuracy of emergency response across Uttar Pradesh.

One Platform, Multiple Emergency Services

The trainees were also introduced to the integrated structure of UP-112, which brings together 24 emergency services under a single platform.

These include:

  • Fire Services
  • Ambulance Services
  • Women Power Line 1090
  • Other emergency support services

The integrated approach allows citizens to access multiple public safety services through a unified emergency response mechanism.

Citizen-Centric Initiatives Highlighted

Apart from technology, officials showcased several initiatives designed to improve public safety and accessibility.

The trainees learned about programmes such as the Savera Scheme, the 112 Link Scheme, and the deployment of Women Police Response Vehicles (PRVs), which aim to provide quicker and more inclusive assistance to citizens.

Officials also highlighted the multiple communication channels available for seeking emergency help. Citizens can contact UP-112 through:

  • Voice calls
  • WhatsApp
  • SMS
  • Email
  • Social media platforms
  • UP-112 website chatbot

These options ensure that people can seek assistance even when conventional calling methods are not feasible.

Preparing Future Police Leaders

The visit was part of the Bharat Darshan programme, which familiarises IPS probationers with best practices in governance, policing and public administration across India. By observing live emergency operations and interacting with senior officials, the trainees gained practical insights into technology-driven policing and coordinated emergency response.

The exposure highlighted the role of integrated command centres, digital technologies and citizen-centric initiatives in modern law enforcement. It also demonstrated how smart policing systems like UP-112 improve emergency response, enhance public trust and strengthen police service delivery.
