Nalin Prabhat, a seasoned IPS officer from the 1992 batch in Andhra Pradesh, has been named as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). NSG, often referred to as the Black Cats, is India’s premier counter-terrorism unit operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Established on October 16, 1984, in the aftermath of Operation Blue Star, its primary mission is to thwart terrorist activities and safeguard states from internal disruptions.
With a focus on counter-terrorism and extensive operational experience, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, Prabhat’s appointment extends until August 2028. Mr. Prabhat belongs to the 1992 batch of IPS officers from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Presently, he serves as the Additional Director-General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed in Jammu and Kashmir.
This change follows Daljeet Chaudhary’s tenure, who previously held additional responsibility as the DG. Chaudhary, the former DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), took on the interim leadership of NSG after the retirement of IPS officer MA Ganapathy in March.
