Ranchi: The Rural Development Department of Jharkhand has released ₹405 crore under the MLA Local Area Development Fund (MLA LAD) for the current financial year to accelerate constituency-level development works.

The funds were officially allocated in Ranchi, ensuring that each of the state’s 81 legislators will receive ₹5 crore for development projects in their respective constituencies.

Officials said the move is aimed at strengthening grassroots infrastructure and improving basic civic amenities across both rural and urban regions.

₹5 Crore Per MLA for Local Development Works

Under the allocation, each Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) will be able to recommend and execute development projects worth ₹5 crore in their constituencies.

The funds can be used for:

  • Road construction and repair
  • Drinking water supply projects
  • Drainage systems
  • Community halls
  • Street lighting and other civic infrastructure

The initiative is expected to speed up pending development works and improve delivery of essential public services at the local level.

Special Focus on Tribal and General Areas

Out of the total ₹405 crore allocation:

  • ₹215 crore has been earmarked under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) for development in tribal-dominated areas
  • ₹190 crore has been allocated for non-tribal or general areas (OSP)

This division aims to ensure balanced regional development and targeted upliftment of tribal communities in Jharkhand.

Faster Implementation of Development Projects

According to officials, the release of funds will enable MLAs to:

  • Propose new development schemes
  • Accelerate stalled projects
  • Address urgent local infrastructure needs

The government believes timely availability of funds will improve execution efficiency and ensure development work aligns with local requirements.

Strengthening Grassroots Infrastructure

The MLA fund is a key component of decentralized development planning, allowing elected representatives to directly address constituency-specific issues.

With this allocation, the state government aims to enhance infrastructure development and improve living standards across both rural and urban areas of Jharkhand.
