Madhya Pradesh Set to Become India’s Leading Green Energy Hub with State-of-the-Art CBG Plants, Says CM Dr. Mohan Yadav

Advanced CBG Plants in Bhopal, Indore, and Satna to Drive Sustainable Energy and Waste-to-Wealth Initiatives
Indian Masterminds Stories

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has emphasized the importance of green energy for a sustainable future, stating that integrated energy production can lead the state and country towards a cleaner, greener, and brighter tomorrow. He said that through private partnerships and collaboration, Madhya Pradesh will be established as a hub for renewable and green energy.

On Wednesday, CM Dr. Yadav virtually inaugurated three Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants set up by Reliance Green Energy in Bhopal, Indore, and Satna from the Chief Minister’s residence at Samatva Bhavan, Bhopal.

CBG Plants: Turning Waste into Energy

Speaking at the virtual inauguration, CM Dr. Yadav described the state-of-the-art CBG plants as symbols of partnership and progress. These plants convert waste into energy, reducing instances of stubble burning and other environmentally harmful practices. He highlighted that Madhya Pradesh’s fertile lands would now contribute to sustainable energy production, setting the foundation for future energy solutions in the state.

The three plants inaugurated on Wednesday were originally laid in a foundation ceremony by CM Dr. Yadav during 2023-24, and with this inauguration, a total of six CBG plants are now operational in Madhya Pradesh. Additional plants in Jabalpur, Balaghat, and Sehore are under construction. The cumulative investment in these six plants is approximately ₹700 crore, with a combined annual production capacity of 45,000 tonnes. These initiatives are projected to reduce around 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to environmental conservation.

Bhopal CBG Plant: A Milestone in Clean Energy

The Chief Minister noted that the inauguration marked the beginning of a new era of clean energy, green development, and a self-reliant Madhya Pradesh. The Bhopal plant, established in Adampur Cantt area by Reliance Industries Limited, is the largest and most advanced CBG plant in the state.

This facility aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Waste-to-Wealth” and “Energy from Waste” initiatives, contributing to India’s net-zero carbon emission goal by 2070. CM Dr. Yadav described the plant as not only an industrial project but also the beginning of “Green Revolution 2.0.”

Turning Waste into Wealth in Bhopal

Reliance officials revealed that the Bhopal CBG plant, built on 20 acres at a cost of ₹130 crore, will produce 22.5 tonnes of bio-gas daily, using 260 tonnes of agricultural residue such as stubble and Napier grass. This waste, previously a source of pollution, is now converted into a renewable energy source.

The produced gas will be utilized as Bio-CNG for vehicles, domestic, and industrial purposes, powering approximately 2,000 auto-rickshaws and smaller vehicles. The plant is expected to generate over 250 direct and indirect jobs, while also providing fermented organic manure to farmers, reducing dependency on chemical fertilizers and improving soil health.

Sustainable Waste Management and Farmer Benefits

The CBG plant uses zero liquid discharge technology and meets white-category pollution standards, making it environmentally safe. It employs Anaerobic Digestion Technology, developed by GPS Renewables (India) and Snow Leopard Projects (Germany). Beyond energy production, the plant provides farmers with additional income from agricultural residues while mitigating the harmful practice of stubble burning.

Expansion Plans Across the State

Reliance Green Energy has three other CBG plants in Indore, Satna, and Jabalpur nearing commissioning or in the final stages of construction, while Balaghat and Sehore are under development. The company plans to revive barren lands and wastelands alongside agricultural residues for energy production.

In the first phase, Reliance aims to establish 100 CBG plants in the state, each with an investment of approximately ₹120 crore, potentially generating over 500 direct and indirect jobs. Over the coming years, the company plans to scale up to 500 CBG plants in Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing the state’s role as a green energy leader in India.
