Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has announced plans worth more than ₹492 crore for science and technology over the next five years. The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, is aimed at strengthening the state’s science and technology ecosystem.
The government said the overall budget allocation for science and technology has reached ₹734 crore. Cabinet Minister Rakesh Singh shared details of the decision after the meeting.
₹492 Crore Plan for Science and Technology
According to Singh, the government has made provisions for more than ₹492 crore worth of programmes in science and technology over the coming five years.
The state government has highlighted the increase as a major shift in its approach towards the sector. It said the previous Congress government had a science and technology budget of ₹6 crore, while the current BJP government has raised the overall allocation to ₹734 crore.
The increased funding is expected to support new programmes and strengthen science and technology-related infrastructure and activities across Madhya Pradesh.

Government Highlights Change in Priority
Minister Rakesh Singh said the difference in budget allocations reflects the priority being given to science and technology by the present government.
He criticised the previous Congress government for what he described as inadequate attention to the sector, while highlighting the current government’s efforts to expand science and technology initiatives.
The government believes that greater investment in the sector can help Madhya Pradesh strengthen its capacity in emerging technologies and support wider development.
Focus on Future-Ready Development
The proposed five-year spending plan comes at a time when science and technology are increasingly linked with education, industry, governance and employment.
For Madhya Pradesh, higher investment could help create stronger opportunities for research, innovation and technology-based development. It could also support the state’s broader efforts to modernise public services and build capabilities in emerging fields.
The government has linked the initiative with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national development commitments announced from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day. It said Madhya Pradesh would contribute significantly towards achieving these goals.
What the Increased Spending Could Mean
The larger allocation provides the state with greater scope to expand science and technology programmes over the coming years. Its impact will ultimately depend on how effectively the funds translate into projects, infrastructure, research opportunities and services.
The decision marks a stronger financial push for science and technology in Madhya Pradesh and places the sector more prominently within the state’s development agenda.
