The New Delhi establishment on Wednesday implemented a significant reshuffle among Union Secretaries. The newly appointed secretaries and their roles are as follows:
- Mr. Rachna Shah (1991-batch Kerala cadre IAS officer): She has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). She was previously serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles.
- Mr. Arunish Chawla (1992-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer): He has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, succeeding Mr. Sanjay Malhotra (1990-batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer), who recently became RBI Governor. Mr. Chawla, currently Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, will also hold additional charge as Secretary, Ministry of Culture.
- Mr. Vineet Joshi (1992-batch Manipur cadre IAS officer): He has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. Mr. Joshi, currently Chief Secretary of Manipur, replaces Mr. K Sanjay Murthy (1989-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IAS officer), who has been appointed as CAG.
- Ms. Neelam Shammi Rao (1992-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer): She has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, succeeding Mr. Rachna Shah. Ms. Rao was previously serving as Secretary, National Commission for Minorities.
- Mr. Sanjay Sethi (1992-batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer): He has been appointed as Secretary, National Commission for Minorities, replacing Ms. Neelam Shammi Rao.
- Mr. Amit Agrawal (1993-batch Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer): He has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, succeeding Mr. Arunish Chawla. Mr. Agrawal was previously DG, UIDAI.
- Ms. Neerja Sekhar (1993-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer): She has been appointed DG, Productivity Council (under DPIIT), in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India. She replaces Mr. S Gopalakrishnan (1991-batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer), who is now Chairman, Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
This reshuffle highlights the government’s focus on administrative efficiency and optimized leadership across ministries and departments.
