New Delhi: The Ministry of Steel will hold an Open House on August 21, 2026, to discuss issues faced by companies and industry associations in importing steel.

The session will focus on matters related to SIMS, SARAL SIMS and QCO exemptions. The initiative will give industry representatives an opportunity to directly present their concerns to the ministry.

Open House From 11 AM to 5 PM

The Open House will take place from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Steel Room, 3rd Floor, GPOA-3, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi.

Companies and associations interested in participating must request a confirmed time slot by email.

The ministry has clarified that walk-ins will not be permitted due to logistical constraints. Only one representative from each organisation will be allowed to participate.

Industries Can Raise Import-Related Issues

The Open House is open to companies and associations dealing with steel imports across sectors such as:

  • Automobile
  • Aerospace
  • Telecom
  • Defence
  • Other steel-consuming industries

What Information Must Be Sent?

Organisations seeking participation should provide key details while sending their request, including:

  • Company or association name
  • Industry type and product
  • Nature of the issue
  • SIMS/SARAL SIMS/QCO exemption reference, if applicable
  • Brief description of the issue, limited to 50 words
  • Name and designation of the participant
  • Mobile number and email address

The ministry has also specified that third-party representation will not be allowed.

August 18 Is the Deadline

Companies and associations facing relevant issues must send their participation request by August 18, 2026, at 2 PM.

The ministry will communicate the confirmed time slot to participants through email.

The Open House is intended to provide a direct channel for industry stakeholders to flag practical difficulties and seek clarity on steel import-related procedures.

Why the Open House Matters

Steel imports are important for several industries that depend on specific grades, products or quantities of steel for manufacturing and infrastructure-related activities.

Issues related to registration systems, quality control requirements and exemptions can affect the import process and, in turn, supply chains for industries using steel as a key input.

By allowing companies to present their concerns directly, the ministry can gather sector-specific feedback and identify issues that may require clarification or further administrative action.

The August 21 meeting will therefore provide an opportunity for industry representatives to put forward their concerns directly before the Ministry of Steel.
