Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has appealed to affluent sections of society to set a “trend” by encouraging mass wedding ceremonies, describing them as a powerful step to curb unnecessary spending and social display in marriages.
He said such events reflect social equality, cultural values, and financial responsibility, while also reducing the economic burden on families.
Mass Weddings Promoting Simplicity and Social Equality
Addressing a mass wedding ceremony virtually in Ashta, Sehore district, the Chief Minister said that marriage is a sacred tradition in Sanatan culture, but modern celebrations often lead to excessive expenditure.
He highlighted that mass weddings:
- Reduce financial pressure on families
- Promote simplicity over show-off culture
- Encourage social unity and equality
- Help poor families conduct dignified marriages

Over 1.7 Lakh Marriages Conducted Under Government Scheme
The Chief Minister informed that under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana, more than 1,70,187 girls have been married between December 2023 and April 2026.

- ₹1,000 crore financial assistance provided
- Large-scale support for economically weaker families
- Dignified ceremonies for thousands of brides
CM Shares Personal Example to Promote Simplicity
CM Mohan Yadav also shared that he himself organized his son’s wedding in a mass marriage ceremony, encouraging others to adopt similar practices.
He said that wealthy families should lead by example to make mass weddings socially acceptable and widely practiced.
Education of Girls Highlighted as Key Responsibility
The Chief Minister emphasized that ensuring education for daughters is a fundamental responsibility of every parent.
He said that investment in education is more important than extravagant wedding expenses and contributes to long-term family welfare.

The Chief Minister stated that mass marriage programs have significantly reduced financial stress on families.

Strong Participation in Ashta Mass Wedding Ceremony
The event in Ashta saw the marriage of 200 couples, with participation from local leaders, family members, and community representatives.
The ceremony was attended virtually by CM Mohan Yadav, who extended blessings and best wishes to the newly married couples.
