Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the importance of nature-aligned architecture and sustainable infrastructure development while inaugurating a two-day national seminar on green building technologies in Bhopal. The event also included the 113th Governing Council Meeting of the Indian Building Congress (IBC), bringing together experts, policymakers, and engineers from across India.
Nature-Aligned Architecture at the Core of Development
Addressing the gathering at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre, CM Dr. Yadav said that traditional Indian architecture has always been rooted in harmony with nature. He stressed that modern infrastructure must integrate environmental balance by incorporating the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space—into construction practices.
He highlighted that uncontrolled urbanization and rising “concrete jungles” have made environmental protection a critical challenge, especially in the face of accelerating global warming.

Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Science
The Chief Minister referred to India’s ancient architectural texts such as Samrangana Sutradhar, associated with Raja Bhoj, noting that historic Indian urban planning already emphasized ecological balance and water conservation systems.
He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently promoted the integration of traditional knowledge systems with modern scientific innovation.
Dr. Yadav further cited examples from Indian heritage sites such as Bhojpur, Ujjain, Mandu, and Shringeri to underline the depth of India’s architectural legacy.
Focus on Green Buildings and Sustainable Technology
The seminar placed strong emphasis on modern sustainable construction practices, including:
- Green building materials
- Energy efficiency systems
- Natural lighting and ventilation
- Smart construction technologies
- Predictive maintenance
- 3D printing and prefabrication
Officials highlighted that these innovations aim to reduce environmental impact while improving efficiency and long-term sustainability in infrastructure development.
Key MoUs Signed for Technical Advancement
During the event, the Public Works Department (PWD) exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Indore to advance construction technology research and innovation.
Another MoU was signed between PWD and the GRIHA Council, focusing on promoting green building standards and sustainable infrastructure practices across the state.

Government’s Push for Water Conservation and Climate Action
CM Yadav also highlighted ongoing water conservation initiatives, stating that Madhya Pradesh is actively working on rejuvenating water structures such as wells and traditional water bodies under the “Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan.”
He noted that the state has ranked first in India for water conservation efforts, with districts like Dindori and Khandwa leading in performance.
Infrastructure Development with Sustainability in Mind
Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh stated that under the leadership of CM Yadav, all new government buildings in the state are being constructed using green building principles.
He added that highways and flyovers are now being designed with rainwater harvesting systems and energy-efficient planning.
Singh also emphasized the need for low-cost green building solutions so that sustainable infrastructure benefits all sections of society.
India Building Congress Highlights Innovation Trends
IBC leaders noted that discussions at the governing council meeting focused on emerging technologies shaping the construction sector, including:
- Smart building systems
- Energy-efficient materials
- Digital engineering tools
- Advanced maintenance techniques
Experts agreed that green building practices are essential for reducing environmental impact while ensuring long-term infrastructure resilience.
Towards a Sustainable Future
The seminar concluded with a shared vision of building a sustainable and environmentally responsible future. Officials reiterated that sustainable development is not just a concept but a responsibility that must be integrated into all levels of planning and construction.
With initiatives like green building adoption, water conservation programs, and technology-driven infrastructure development, Madhya Pradesh aims to position itself as a leading state in sustainable urban development in India.
