New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across India, allowing eligible local commuters to apply for monthly passes digitally through the Rajmargyatra mobile app.
The initiative is aimed at reducing paperwork and physical visits to toll plazas while making local toll services more transparent, efficient and convenient.
Digital Local Pass Now Available at 121 Toll Plazas
Under the expanded facility, eligible commuters can purchase a monthly Local Pass online instead of visiting a toll plaza and submitting documents manually.

The facility was first introduced in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II).
Following the initial rollout, NHAI has expanded the service to 121 toll plazas and plans to extend it to additional locations in the coming months.
What the Digital Local Pass offers
- Online application through the Rajmargyatra app
- Monthly Local Pass for eligible commuters
- No need for physical visits to toll plazas
- No manual submission of residential-address documents
- Unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable rules
Who Can Apply for the Local Pass?
The facility is available to residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza.
Applicants can use the Rajmargyatra app to apply for the pass, with their eligibility verified digitally.
The online process is designed to replace the earlier system under which commuters had to visit toll plazas and provide documents establishing their residential address and other eligibility requirements.
DigiLocker, VAHAN and GIS Power the Verification
The digital Local Pass system uses consent-based integration with government digital platforms, including DigiLocker and VAHAN, to verify information required for the application.
The system can retrieve and validate:
- Residential address
- Vehicle details
- Linked FASTag information
- Other relevant eligibility information
NHAI also uses GIS-based verification to determine whether the applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20-km radius of the toll plaza.
Digital Verification Reduces Manual Intervention
The integration of verified digital records with GIS-based validation is intended to make the eligibility process more consistent and transparent.
The system aims to:
- Reduce paperwork
- Eliminate physical verification requirements
- Minimise manual intervention
- Improve accuracy in determining eligibility
- Speed up delivery of Local Pass services
- Make tolling services more citizen-centric
NHAI Pushes Technology-Enabled Highway Services
The expansion of the Digital Local Pass facility is part of NHAI’s broader effort to use technology to improve services on the National Highway network.
By moving the Local Pass application process online, the authority aims to make toll services more accessible while supporting the government’s wider Digital India and Ease of Living objectives.
Eligible National Highway users can check the list of toll plazas covered under the facility through the Rajmargyatra portal.
