NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) Bongaigaon has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to community development with the inauguration of a residential dormitory for reelers and weavers at Bodoland Silk Park, Kokrajhar.
This initiative, part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to support local artisans and promote sustainable livelihoods in the region.
The dormitory was inaugurated by Smt. Abha Jadli, Senior Member of Sanyukta Mahila Samiti, in the presence of key dignitaries and community leaders. In her address, she highlighted NTPC’s “people- and planet-first” approach, applauding the collaboration with the Department of Sericulture as a strong example of inclusive and sustainable development.
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is an autonomous division in Assam, India, and a proposed state in Northeast India. It comprises five districts located on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River, below the foothills of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. The region is administered by the Bodoland Territorial Council, an elected body established through a peace agreement signed in February 2003, with its autonomy further enhanced by a subsequent agreement in January 2020. Covering over 9,000 square kilometers, BTR is predominantly inhabited by the Bodo people and other indigenous communities of Assam.

NTPC is a central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It is primarily engaged in electricity generation and distribution to State Electricity Boards across India. Additionally, NTPC undertakes consultancy and turnkey project contracts involving engineering, project management, construction, and operation and maintenance of power plants.
