NTPC Unchahar Distributes Bicycles to Rural Girls Under GEM 2025, Boosts Education and Empowerment

CSR initiative removes mobility barriers and inspires confidence among schoolgirls in Raebareli
Indian Masterminds Stories

Raebareli: In a significant step towards promoting girls’ education and empowerment, NTPC Unchahar organized a bicycle distribution program for rural school-going girls under its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2025. The initiative, held as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, aims to eliminate mobility challenges faced by young girls and provide them with the freedom to pursue academic and career aspirations.

Empowering Girls, One Bicycle at a Time

Transportation continues to be a major hurdle for schoolgirls in many rural areas, often impacting attendance and learning outcomes. With the distribution of bicycles, NTPC Unchahar is directly addressing this challenge—ensuring girls can travel to school and coaching classes with greater ease, safety, and independence.

More than a mode of transport, the bicycles symbolize freedom, opportunity, and inclusion—key ingredients for true empowerment.

District Leadership Commends the Initiative

The event witnessed the presence of Mrs. Harshita Mathur (IAS), District Magistrate of Raebareli, who attended as the Chief Guest. In her address, she encouraged the girls to continue working hard with self-confidence and described the program as a turning point in their personal development.

“This initiative not only supports education but helps build the personality and courage of these young girls,” she said.
Mrs. Mathur also praised NTPC Unchahar’s commitment to social causes, affirming that the company has always stood shoulder to shoulder with the district administration for the region’s progress.

Leadership Message: A Mantra for Bravery

Speaking at the event, Mr. Abhay Kumar Srivastava, Executive Director and Head of Project, NTPC Unchahar, expressed his pride in supporting an initiative that directly impacts future generations. He noted that the bicycles would reduce travel difficulties for the girls and encourage them to pursue higher education and career goals.

In an inspiring message, he shared:

“Victory lies beyond fear. Face every challenge with courage, and success will follow.”

His words resonated deeply with the young participants, who were visibly excited and motivated by the opportunity.

A Community-Wide Effort

The program was attended by a host of dignitaries, senior NTPC officials, and community leaders, including:

  • Mrs. Anupama Srivastava, President, Priyadarshini Ladies Club
  • Mr. Dilip Kumar Sahu, GM (Operations & FM)
  • Mr. S.U. Haridas, GM (Maintenance & Administration)
  • Mrs. Ranjita, Senior Member, PDLC
  • Mrs. Ruma De Sharma, Head of HR
  • Mr. Rajesh Srivastava, SDM, Unchahar
  • Representatives from AC CISF, employee unions, associations, and the PDLC committee

Their collective presence and encouragement reflected a unified commitment to uplifting rural girls through education and opportunity.

Beyond Education: Shaping the Future of Rural India

While the immediate impact of the initiative is improved school attendance, its broader purpose lies in sparking long-term transformation—social, educational, and economic. The initiative helps instill a sense of self-worth and independence among girls, encouraging families and communities to value and support female education.

By investing in girls’ mobility, NTPC Unchahar is also investing in their future confidence, employability, and leadership potential.
