New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has secured a major Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.
The company announced that it has received the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project titled “Transmission System for Integration of Krishnagiri REZ Phase-I” on July 10, 2026.
The project will be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model and aims to strengthen India’s renewable energy transmission infrastructure by enabling the integration of clean energy generated from the Krishnagiri Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) into the national grid.
POWERGRID Secures Krishnagiri REZ Phase-I Transmission Project
The transmission project was awarded through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, which is used for selecting transmission developers through a transparent bidding process.
The project is expected to play an important role in strengthening India’s green energy corridor by improving the transmission capacity required to evacuate renewable power from energy-rich regions to high-demand areas.
POWERGRID disclosed the development through a regulatory filing submitted to the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE Limited under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Project to Cover Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka
The Krishnagiri REZ Phase-I transmission system will involve major infrastructure development across three southern states:
- Andhra Pradesh
- Telangana
- Karnataka
The project will include the construction of high-voltage transmission infrastructure to support the movement of renewable energy across the southern power network.
Key Infrastructure Under the Transmission Project
The major components of the project include:
Two New 765/400kV Substations
POWERGRID will develop two new 765/400kV substations in Andhra Pradesh as part of the transmission system.
These substations will enhance grid capacity and provide critical infrastructure for integrating renewable power into the interstate transmission network.
765kV and 400kV Transmission Lines
The project also includes the construction of:
- 765kV transmission lines
- 400kV transmission lines
- Associated transmission bays
These high-capacity lines will connect renewable energy generation zones with the national grid and improve electricity transfer capability among southern states.
Boost to Renewable Energy Integration in India
The project is aligned with India’s broader renewable energy expansion strategy and the development of green energy corridors.
Renewable energy zones, including solar and wind power hubs, require strong interstate transmission networks to transport clean electricity from generation locations to consumption centres.
The Krishnagiri REZ Phase-I project will support:
- Renewable energy evacuation
- Grid stability
- Increased clean energy integration
- Strengthening of interstate transmission infrastructure
POWERGRID Strengthens Position in Competitive Transmission Market
The latest project win highlights POWERGRID’s strong presence in India’s competitive transmission sector.
The company continues to play a key role in developing critical power infrastructure required for India’s energy transition.
Under the BOOT model, the project is expected to provide long-term revenue visibility and contribute to POWERGRID’s regulated transmission business growth.
The company’s expanding portfolio of ISTS projects supports the government’s objective of creating a reliable and modern electricity transmission network.
