Chandigarh: Punjab has expanded its network of Aam Aadmi Clinics to 1,090 with the addition of 100 new facilities across the state. The latest expansion was carried out in July, with the new clinics being dedicated in phases across different districts.
The statewide expansion is aimed at providing primary healthcare services closer to residents. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh formally inaugurated the latest phase at Vikas Nagar in Patiala Rural, while other new clinics were opened by ministers, MLAs and public representatives in different parts of the state.
What Services Are Available at the Clinics?
The clinics provide 107 essential medicines and 47 types of diagnostic tests free of cost, according to state-related budget documents and reports on the expanded network. They are staffed with medical and healthcare personnel and use an IT-enabled system for patient registration, diagnosis, prescriptions and medicine distribution.

Services available through the clinics include treatment for common ailments, antenatal care, family-planning services, dog-bite treatment and screening and management of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
Punjab’s March 2026 budget documents had identified the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics as part of the state’s primary healthcare plans. At that stage, 881 clinics were reported to be providing the 107 medicines and 47 diagnostic tests free of charge, with 100 additional clinics planned during the year.
Expansion Follows Further Primary Healthcare Plans
The state had also announced plans for additional expansion beyond the 100 clinics launched in July. The 2026-27 budget document proposed 143 more Aam Aadmi Clinics and the conversion of 308 subsidiary health centres into Aam Aadmi Clinics.
The Punjab Health Systems Corporation’s current records list 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics, alongside other public health facilities supported by the corporation.
The expansion is part of Punjab’s broader primary healthcare network. Separately, the Centre reported that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs provide primary healthcare services across the country, but these are a different programme from Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Clinics.
