Amritsar, Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday inaugurated a major development initiative in Attari constituency, announcing projects worth ₹57.80 crore for the renovation of 121 link roads spanning 137 kilometers. The projects aim to improve connectivity in border areas, which remained neglected for decades, transforming them into thriving regions under the “Vibrant Punjab” vision.
Development Across Health and Education Sectors
Alongside road development, the CM highlighted progress in healthcare and education. “Schools of Eminence” and “Common Man Clinics” are operational in Amritsar district, and a new government college is under construction in Ajnala at a cost of ₹15 crore. These initiatives aim to provide quality education and healthcare access to rural communities.
Major Irrigation Projects for Farmers
The Punjab government has revived canals and watercourses at an investment of ₹6,500 crore, ensuring canal water reaches the tail ends of over 1,400 villages. CM Mann emphasized that these efforts will directly benefit farmers in border regions, easing agricultural hardships and increasing productivity.
Border Fencing and Security Enhancements
Addressing border challenges, CM Mann announced that the central government has approved the advancement of border fencing, allowing cultivation on previously restricted land. Additionally, an Anti-Drone System has been installed to prevent drug smuggling, reinforcing security in sensitive areas.
Anti-Drug Campaign and Public Support
CM Mann strongly criticized past administrations for enabling the drug trade in Punjab. He reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating the menace through the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” campaign. The initiative, supported by public participation, has disrupted drug supply lines, imprisoned major smugglers, and turned the campaign into a state-wide mass movement.
Transforming Governance and Public Welfare
Highlighting pro-people initiatives, CM Mann detailed several achievements of the AAP government:
- Free electricity to 90% of households and uninterrupted power supply for farm tube wells.
- Government jobs to over 65,000 youth without corruption.
- Health cards issued to 65 lakh families under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, providing treatment up to ₹10 lakh.
- Direct financial support to women under Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna.
He emphasized that tax money is being spent on public welfare, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Road Repair and Maintenance Program
CM Mann also announced a large-scale project to repair and upgrade Punjab’s 43,000 km of link roads. This program includes a five-year maintenance plan to ensure lasting benefits and smooth connectivity for rural and border regions.
Farmers’ Relief Through Border Fencing Adjustment
Under a recent agreement with the central government, fencing along the international border will be moved to within 300 meters, providing farmers in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and Ferozepur the ability to cultivate previously restricted land. SDMs have been tasked with proper demarcation to ensure timely implementation.
CM Mann’s Vision for 2027 Elections
Positioning governance as the primary focus over political rivalries, CM Mann underscored the government’s commitment to education, health, power, agriculture, and overall development. He stressed that the AAP’s initiatives are transforming Punjab into a “Rangla Punjab,” with citizens directly benefiting from development projects and improved infrastructure.
