Chandigarh: Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains has announced a large-scale development plan aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure in several municipal council areas surrounding the Tricity region. The initiative focuses on improving roads, water supply systems, and sewerage infrastructure across key towns including Kharar, Zirakpur, Derabassi, Nayagaon, Banur, Kurali, and Gharuan.

Over 250 Kilometres of Roads Under Construction

According to the minister, more than 250 kilometres of road construction work is currently underway across the seven municipal council areas. Sewerage Cleaning and De-Silting Operations Intensified

Alongside water supply improvements, large-scale sewerage cleaning and de-silting operations are also being carried out across the affected urban areas. The initiative is expected to improve drainage efficiency and reduce waterlogging issues during the monsoon season.

Strict Timeline and Weekly Monitoring of Projects

Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized that delays in development projects will not be tolerated. He directed officials to ensure strict adherence to timelines, with all ongoing and upcoming works to be reviewed on a weekly basis. He reiterated that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to implementing a transparent, time-bound, and future-ready development model focused on sustainable urban growth.

Focus on Tricity-Linked Urban Growth

The development push is seen as a significant step toward strengthening infrastructure in fast-growing suburban belts around Chandigarh. These regions have witnessed rapid urbanization in recent years, increasing the demand for improved roads, water supply, and sanitation services.
