Champawat: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Boomghat area of Tanakpur in Champawat district on Sunday, 05 July 2026, where he laid the foundation stone for two major flood protection projects. The visit was part of the “Jan-Jan Ki Sarkar, Jan-Jan Ke Dwar” public outreach programme.
The Chief Minister performed the Bhoomi Pujan and reviewed ongoing flood protection works on the Sharda river, directing officials to ensure timely and high-quality execution of the projects.
₹60.21 Crore Sharda River Embankment Project Launched
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a ₹60.21 crore flood protection embankment project along the Sharda river, stretching from Boom to Tanakpur.
The project aims to strengthen riverbanks and reduce the risk of flooding and erosion that has historically impacted the region during the monsoon season. CM Dhami emphasized that the embankment is not just a construction project but a long-term safeguard for future generations and regional development.
₹2.74 Crore Flood Protection Work in Chhini Goth Village
In another key announcement, CM Dhami also laid the foundation stone for a ₹2.74 crore flood protection wall project on the Hooddi river in Gram Chhini Goth under Purnagiri tehsil.
This project is aimed at protecting local settlements from seasonal flooding and strengthening safety infrastructure for residents living near riverbanks.
Review of Ongoing Flood Safety Works
During his visit, the Chief Minister also inspected ongoing flood protection construction work on the Sharda river. He instructed officials to maintain strict quality standards and ensure timely completion of the projects.
He reiterated that disaster management and river erosion control remain top priorities for the state government.

Addressing the public gathering, CM Dhami said that the Sharda embankment project represents more than infrastructure—it is a foundation for the safety and development of future generations.
He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from local residents and said that the people of Champawat have always given him family-like affection and trust.
Participation in ‘Jan-Jan Ki Sarkar, Jan-Jan Ke Dwar’ Programme
CM Dhami attended the public outreach programme held at Boom on the Tanakpur–Purnagiri route. He also reviewed various departmental stalls set up under the Seva Pakhwada initiative and took updates on welfare schemes being implemented in the region.
He interacted with citizens, heard grievances, and directed officials to ensure timely resolution of public issues.
Cultural Highlight: CM Dhami Prepares Mandua Roti with Women SHGs
A major attraction of the visit was CM Dhami’s interaction with women self-help groups. He participated in traditional cooking activities and prepared mandua (millet) roti on a clay stove.
He also used a traditional sil-batta to grind salt along with SHG members. The gesture was widely appreciated and became one of the most discussed moments of the event.
Focus on Development and Disaster Resilience
CM Dhami highlighted that the new projects will significantly reduce damage caused by floods and river erosion from the Sharda and Hooddi rivers. He said these initiatives will improve safety, livelihoods, and long-term development in the region.
He also mentioned that work on the ₹3,300 crore Sharda Corridor project is progressing rapidly, which will further boost infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
Political Interaction with BJP Workers
The Chief Minister also held a separate interaction with BJP office bearers and workers. He encouraged them to strengthen the party at the booth level and ensure government schemes reach every household.
He also discussed preparations for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections and emphasized expanding public outreach and organizational strength.
