New Delhi: RailTel Corporation of India Limited organised the RailTel AI Workshop 2026, themed “AI@Government: Powering the Future,” bringing together senior leaders from the government, public sector undertakings (PSUs), technology companies and the wider artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem to discuss practical and scalable applications of AI in governance.
The workshop focused on how emerging AI technologies can be translated into real-world solutions for improving operational efficiency, strengthening public services and supporting digital transformation across government organisations and PSUs.
Sanjai Kumar Highlights Role of AI in Transforming Organisations
Welcoming participants at the workshop, Sanjai Kumar, CMD, RailTel, highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in transforming organisations.
He emphasised how AI can contribute to:
- Improving operational efficiency
- Enhancing service delivery
- Supporting data-driven decision-making
- Enabling digital transformation across organisations
The workshop provided a platform for government and industry stakeholders to discuss practical approaches for integrating AI into organisational and public-service frameworks.

MeitY Secretary Highlights Compute, Models and Data
Delivering the keynote address, S. Krishnan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), highlighted the importance of compute, AI models and data in developing India’s AI ecosystem.
He emphasised the need for:
- Indigenous and secure AI solutions
- India-specific AI models and applications
- Strong AI computing infrastructure
- A robust ecosystem to support AI adoption
Krishnan also highlighted RailTel’s potential role in strengthening India’s AI-ready infrastructure, particularly through its capabilities in telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
Sarvam Co-Founder Shares Insights on India’s AI Landscape
Dr. Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder, Sarvam, shared insights into the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape and the opportunities emerging from AI adoption in India.
His session highlighted the importance of developing AI solutions that are relevant to the Indian context and capable of addressing real-world requirements across different sectors.
Panel Discussion Focuses on Real-World AI Use Cases
A key highlight of the workshop was a panel discussion moderated by V. Rama Manohar Rao, Director/Finance, RailTel.
The discussion brought together AI and technology leaders to deliberate on practical AI applications and deployment across government organisations and PSUs.

Industry perspectives were also shared by Nitin Gupta, Lead – GenAI & Cloud Strategy, Google, and Prabhas Harlapur, Lead Solutions Architect, Intel.
Their discussions focused on the technologies, computing capabilities and infrastructure required to support wider AI adoption.
The workshop highlighted that successful AI implementation requires not only AI models but also reliable infrastructure, secure systems and appropriate technology ecosystems.

The deliberations are expected to contribute to identifying scalable AI use cases, improving understanding of implementation requirements and supporting the adoption of AI in governance and public services.
