New Delhi: The Railway Board has approved the appointment of Rakesh Choudhary, an IRSE officer, as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) at the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).
The appointment marks an important step in strengthening governance and oversight in India’s high-speed rail projects.
Three-Year Deputation in Full-Time Role
Currently serving as Executive Director (ED/SD-I) at the Railway Board, Rakesh Choudhary has been selected for a full-time deputation role in New Delhi.
Key details of the appointment:
- Tenure: Initial period of three years
- Basis: From the date of assumption of charge
- Condition: Subject to government approval for exemption from immediate absorption rules
The deputation may be extended or modified based on further government orders.

Directions Issued for Immediate Relieving
The Railway Board has instructed that Rakesh Choudhary be relieved at the earliest to assume his new responsibilities.
As per Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) guidelines:
- The officer will be deemed relieved after completion of tenure
- Any extension will require prior approval
The date of his formal relieving will be communicated to the Board.
Boost to Governance in High-Speed Rail Projects
The appointment of a dedicated Chief Vigilance Officer is expected to:
- Enhance transparency in project execution
- Strengthen monitoring and compliance mechanisms
- Improve accountability in large-scale infrastructure development
