New Delhi: The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has appointed Capt. Chandran Durai Daniel as Director (Bulk Carriers & Tankers), marking an important leadership change in the state-owned shipping major.
The appointment came into effect on May 5, 2026 at 12:30 PM, following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet based on a proposal from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Rear Admiral Jaswinder Singh Relinquishes Additional Charge
With the new appointment, Rear Admiral Jaswinder Singh, Director (L&PS), has stepped down from the additional charge of Director (Bulk Carriers & Tankers) with immediate effect.
This transition ensures a streamlined leadership structure within SCI’s key operational division.
Chandran Durai Daniel to Serve Till 2027 Superannuation
Capt. Chandran Durai Daniel will hold the position until July 31, 2027, or until further government orders, whichever is earlier.
SCI confirmed that:
- He is not related to any existing board member
- He is not debarred by SEBI or any regulatory authority
- His appointment complies with all regulatory norms
Over 36 Years of Maritime Experience
Capt. Daniel brings more than 36 years of experience in the maritime sector.
His career highlights include:
- Joining SCI as Trainee Nautical Officer in 1989
- Sailing across multiple vessel categories
- Transition to shore-based leadership roles in 2004
- Senior management roles in domestic and international operations, including the UK office
He is also a Mechanical Engineering graduate from NIT Tiruchirappalli.
Contribution to Maritime Education
Beyond his corporate role, Capt. Daniel is a member of the Governing Council of the Narottam Morarjee Institute of Shipping, where he contributes to training and professional development programs in shipping and logistics.
Strengthening SCI’s Core Shipping Operations
The appointment is expected to strengthen SCI’s Bulk Carrier and Tanker operations, a critical segment for India’s energy transportation and global trade logistics.
It also reflects the government’s continued focus on enhancing leadership and governance in public sector enterprises.
