Surrendered Naxal women walked the ramp in Raipur wearing traditional Kosa silk and handloom outfits, highlighting a changing Bastar and their journey towards a new life.
Indian Masterminds Stories

Raipur: A group of surrendered Naxal women became the centre of attention at a state-level weavers’ conference and Swadeshi exhibition held in Raipur on National Handloom Day.

The women walked the ramp wearing traditional Kosa silk and handloom outfits from Chhattisgarh, presenting a striking picture of confidence and change.

From Violence to the Ramp

For these women, the event was more than a fashion show.

After leaving the path of violence and returning to the mainstream, they are now building a different future. Their appearance on the ramp reflected the possibilities of rehabilitation, dignity and self-reliance.

The event also offered a glimpse of a changing Bastar, where people affected by Left Wing Extremism are finding opportunities to reconnect with mainstream society.

Traditional Kosa Silk Takes Centre Stage

The women showcased attractive outfits made using traditional weaving techniques and Kosa silk.

Their participation also brought attention to Chhattisgarh’s rich handloom tradition and the artisans who keep these weaving practices alive.

As they stepped onto the ramp, the auditorium filled with applause. Their confident presentation became one of the key attractions of the Swadeshi fashion show.

A New Image of Bastar

The participation of surrendered Naxal women added a deeper message to the event.

Their journey showed how people who once lived amid violence can rebuild their lives through opportunities that promote confidence and economic independence.

The fashion show therefore became both a celebration of local handloom and a symbol of social change.

Beyond a Fashion Show

The event connected two important themes — traditional craftsmanship and rehabilitation.

While the Kosa silk outfits showcased the cultural identity of Chhattisgarh, the women on the ramp represented a new chapter in their own lives.

Their participation sent a simple message: with the right opportunities and support, returning to the mainstream can lead to a life built around dignity, skills and self-reliance.
