Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to roll out two major initiatives aimed at providing direct financial and social-security benefits to lakhs of families and private school teachers across the state.
Under the first initiative, around 10 lakh students enrolled in government-run primary and upper primary schoolsare set to receive ₹1,200 each through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The amount will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of their parents and can be used for school uniforms, shoes, socks and other essential educational supplies.
At the same time, the state government is preparing to expand the Chief Minister’s Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme to teachers working in unaided private schools. Around 3 lakh private school teachers, along with their eligible dependents, are expected to benefit from cashless medical treatment under the initiative.
The two measures are aimed at strengthening educational support for children while expanding healthcare protection for teachers outside the government and aided-school system.
₹1,200 DBT Assistance for Around 10 Lakh Students
The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to transfer ₹1,200 each to the parents of approximately 10 lakh studentsstudying in government-run primary and upper primary schools.
The assistance will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring that the money reaches the parents’ bank accounts directly.
The financial support is intended primarily to help families purchase essential items required for children to attend school, including:
- School uniforms
- Shoes and socks
- Other essential educational supplies

The bank accounts of parents of approximately 15 lakh students are currently being linked with Aadhaar, while the necessary documentation and verification procedures are being completed.
Once the verification process is completed, these children’s parents will also become eligible to receive the financial assistance for uniforms, footwear, socks and other educational requirements.
This means the current exercise involves both immediate transfers for verified beneficiaries and continued efforts to complete documentation for additional students.
Cashless Medical Treatment for 3 Lakh Private School Teachers
Alongside the student assistance programme, the Yogi government is preparing a major expansion of its teacher healthcare initiative.
The Chief Minister’s Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme, which has already extended benefits to teachers in government and government-aided basic and secondary schools, is now proposed to cover teachers working in unaided private schools.
Around 3 lakh private school teachers across Uttar Pradesh are expected to benefit from the expansion.
The scheme is also expected to cover the dependents of eligible teachers, thereby extending the healthcare benefit beyond the individual teacher.
Teachers to Get Treatment Without Upfront Payment
Under the proposed cashless arrangement, eligible teachers and their dependents will be able to avail themselves of treatment at empanelled hospitals without making upfront payments, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions and scheme rules.
The initiative could provide significant relief to private school teachers who often have limited access to institutional healthcare benefits compared with employees in government and aided educational institutions.

35,000 Private Schools to Come Under the Initiative
There are around 35,000 private schools in Uttar Pradesh, with more than 3 lakh teachers employed across these institutions.

The government is currently working on the data collection, registration and eligibility-related procedures required to implement the scheme.
Private school teachers will be required to register on the designated portal so that their details can be compiled and verified for inclusion in the scheme.
Director of Basic Education Issues Instructions
To facilitate implementation, Director of Basic Education Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi has issued instructions to all Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs).
The district-level education authorities have been asked to take the necessary steps for implementing the government’s directions.
The exercise includes collecting and verifying relevant information concerning private school teachers and completing the required registration and documentation procedures.
The registration process will help the government establish an authenticated database of eligible private school teachers and their dependents.
Shiksha Mitras and Instructors Also in Focus
The government is also looking to extend the healthcare benefit beyond regular teachers.
According to the information provided, Shiksha Mitras (para-teachers) and instructors are also being brought into the ambit of the initiative.
