Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government has revoked the suspension of IPS officer D. Magesh Kumar, who was previously accused of harassing a Grade I woman constable, following a recommendation by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
Magesh Kumar, who served as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic (North Chennai), was placed under suspension in February 2024 under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, pending inquiry into the allegations.
In its report, the ICC stated that the complaint was settled under conciliation at the request of the complainant, in line with Section 10 of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013. The committee concluded that no further action was necessary on the complaint, originally dated February 12.
Based on this, Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal recommended the revocation of the suspension, citing the ICC’s findings.
Following a careful and independent review, the Home Department accepted the recommendations. In an official order, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dheeraj Kumar stated, “The Government has examined carefully and independently the recommendations of the Committee and the DGP and has decided to accept it. Therefore, the Government hereby revokes the order of suspension against Mr. Magesh Kumar with immediate effect.”
The revocation allows Mr. Magesh Kumar to resume duties, bringing closure to a sensitive issue that had drawn significant administrative attention.
