Hyderabad: The Rajendranagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court has rejected the interim bail plea filed by trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy, who is accused of sexually assaulting, abusing, and blackmailing a fellow trainee officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad.

Reddy had sought interim bail to appear before an internal inquiry committee constituted by the Academy to examine the allegations. However, the court declined to grant him temporary relief, even as the criminal investigation into the case continues.

Bail Plea Sought for Appearance Before Inquiry Committee

According to court proceedings, Reddy requested interim bail solely to attend the proceedings of the inquiry committee at the National Police Academy, where the alleged incident took place.

The Rajendranagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court, however, rejected the plea on August 4, leaving him in judicial custody.

The latest setback comes after the Telangana High Court had also declined to grant him interim relief last week. Reddy had approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR registered against him. The High Court adjourned the matter and posted the case for further hearing on August 26.

Allegations by Fellow Trainee Officer

The case stems from a complaint lodged by a fellow trainee woman IPS officer, who alleged that Reddy sexually assaulted her, abused her and blackmailed her while both were undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Shivarampally.

The complainant approached the Attapur Police Station on July 18, following which an FIR was registered.

The allegations quickly gained national attention and triggered widespread discussion on social media.

Arrest After Police Search

Following registration of the FIR, police reportedly attempted to serve notices to Reddy at two official addresses in Hyderabad. However, officers were unable to locate him or establish contact through his mobile phone, leading investigators to suspect that he was absconding.

He was eventually traced by the Hyderabad Task Force and detained at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on July 28.

On the morning of July 29, he was brought to Attapur Police Station, where his arrest was formally recorded after the FIR.

Investigation Underway

The investigation is being led by DCP Lavanya Naik, who heads the Women’s Safety Wing, along with Inspector Jyotsna.

The investigating officers recorded Reddy’s statement before producing him before the court.

Subsequently, he was presented before the Upparpally Court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. Since then, he has been lodged at Chanchalguda Central Prison.

Meanwhile, police have sought his custodial interrogation to facilitate further investigation. The application seeking police custody is still pending before the Rajendranagar court.

Suicide Note and Hospitalisation

Soon after the FIR was registered, Reddy was admitted to Jayanti Hospital in SR Nagar after his family reportedly discovered a suicide note and believed he had attempted to end his life.

However, a subsequent medical examination concluded that he had become unconscious due to excessive alcohol consumption and did not confirm a suicide attempt.

Accused Denied Absconding

Before his arrest, Reddy appeared in an interview with a local television news channel, claiming that he was staying in his native village of Ullapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district.

He stated that his grandmother had fallen ill after learning about the allegations against him.

Reddy acknowledged that police had attempted to serve notices but claimed that the addresses visited by investigators were only his temporary residences. He denied allegations that he had absconded from the investigation.

Case Continues

With both the Rajendranagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the Telangana High Court declining to grant interim relief, Reddy remains in judicial custody as the police continue their investigation into the allegations.

The High Court is scheduled to hear his petition seeking quashing of the FIR on August 26, while the trial court is yet to decide on the police request for custodial interrogation.
