Tiruchi: Tamil Nadu DGP and Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS: 1994: TN), reviewed the law-and-order and crime situation in the Central Zone during a visit to Tiruchi on September 27, directing police officers to strengthen preventive policing and step up monitoring of history-sheeters.
The review meeting at the Tiruchi District Police Office was attended by senior police officers from the Central Zone, including the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchi City Police Commissioner, Deputy Inspectors-General of the Tiruchi and Thanjavur ranges, and Superintendents of Police from districts in the zone.
Aggarwal directed officers to intensify action against history-sheeters, including monitoring their activities and cases and ensuring sustained follow-up at the police-station level. He also called for stronger measures concerning the safety and security of women, children and senior citizens.
Data Centres Launched Across Central Zone
During the visit, Aggarwal inaugurated a police data centre in Tiruchi and launched similar centres in other districts of the Central Zone through videoconferencing. The centres provide access to police-station records, criminal investigation information, vehicle details and digital police services.
According to reports, the data can be used to identify crime trends, monitor habitual offenders, establish links between cases and support data-based decision-making for law-and-order operations.
143 Police Personnel Submit Petitions
As part of his Tiruchi visit, the DGP also held a grievance-redress meeting in which 143 police personnel from the Central Zone and Tiruchi City submitted petitions. Aggarwal also presented rewards to 110 police personnel in recognition of their service and contribution to policing.
The review comes as the Tamil Nadu Police continues to emphasise crime prevention, monitoring of repeat offenders and the use of digital policing tools under the leadership of DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal.
