Two senior IPS officers have been found Covid-19 positive, on Friday, at Singhu Border where farmers are staging a protest against the New Farm Bills passed by the Central government.
The officers have been identified as Outer North Deputy Superintendent of Police (DCP) Gaurav and Additional DCP Ghanshyam Bansal. Both the offices are in home isolation, according to a Delhi Police officer.
In view of farmers’ protest, hundreds of police have been deployed at Singhu border, located at Delhi-Haryana border, to avert untoward incidents.
Notably, farmers from different states of the country have been protesting at different borders of Delhi for two weeks. They are demanding to repeal the New Farm Bills. They don’t want any amendments in the Bills offered by the government.
Farmers threatened to intensify their agitation on Thursday. They said that railway tracks would be blocked to mount pressure on the Union govt.
The farmers announced their next move when Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said it was not right to announce the next stage of agitation when talks were continuing and urged the unions to return to the discussion table.
According to farmers, New Farm Bills have been introduced to give maximum benefits to corporates by weakening the mandi system and the minimum support price (MSP) regime for procurement of farm produce.
