Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has approved 637 projects worth ₹29,716.29 crore under the Centre’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, with a focus on drinking water supply, sewerage, water conservation and development of green spaces.
The AMRUT 2.0 programme, which runs from 2021 to 2026, covers 762 urban local bodies and 60 AMRUT cities in Uttar Pradesh.
637 Projects Approved Across Urban Areas
Of the 637 approved projects, 114 have been completed, while work is underway on 453 projects, according to the information provided by the state.

So far, 612 projects have received financial approval, while tenders for 567 projects have been approved.
₹18,829 Crore for Drinking Water Projects
Drinking water infrastructure accounts for the largest component of the approved projects.
A total of 437 drinking water projects worth ₹18,829 crore have been approved. The projects are intended to strengthen water supply infrastructure in urban areas.
Another 41 sewerage projects worth ₹10,124 crore have been included under the mission.
190 Lakes to Be Revived
AMRUT 2.0 projects in Uttar Pradesh also include measures for urban water conservation and environmental improvement.
The state has approved 190 lake-rejuvenation projects worth ₹403.45 crore. The programme includes the revival of lakes covering more than one acre, along with measures related to rainwater harvesting and water conservation.
1,777 Green-Space and Park Projects
The state is also undertaking 1,777 green-land and park projects with a combined allocation of ₹89.76 crore.
These projects form part of the environmental component of AMRUT 2.0, alongside lake rejuvenation and water-conservation works.
Mission Covers Water, Sanitation and Environment
AMRUT 2.0 aims to expand access to tap water and sewer connections while supporting urban water conservation and environmental improvements.
According to Masoom Ali Sarwar, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban), the department is focusing on completing the approved projects within the prescribed timelines and maintaining quality in their execution.
